The point this guy is making is the small difference between the parties and therefore the limited choice for the English electorate and by default the Scots and the Welsh
There is no socialist option in UK poiltics because decades of right wing media dogma has made it impossible for any party to be elected on anything other than a capitalist economic and pro- British “values” agenda. Labour are centre right; in many countries they would be considered the right wing option.
I get the point that he's making, I just don't agree with it. It's the same "both sides" stuff that's getting a lot of push from the fringes in lots of countries. Biden in the US is the most obvious example. Some people want dramatic changes, but most voters simply won't vote for that. Getting competence and stability right now would be a fantastic improvement and a great start. Labour and the Democrats are a much better shot at that then the Tories and Republicans. Far fewer links to Russia, too.
The fact it took the best part of a day for her to find her voice, and it just so happened to be after Kamikwasi called it racist on the Daily Politics makes her motives reasonably suspect
By "insensitive statements" he means pushback due to his wife being caught doing settler raids for the IDF long before October 7th

Sunak has made a screeching U turn and followed suit! So that's another raft of Tory sacrificial lambs who sold their souls this morning defending the indefensible.
The cuckolds who spouted the Government line this morning should be hauled back in front of the cameras tomorrow to explain why, contrary to their Party leader, they don't consider the comments racist. And I know PMQ's is a waste of time and space, but tomorrow could be entertaining
But if some bloke down the pub had said the same thing within the hearing of a black woman, he would have committed a racially aggravated Public Order Act offence. The comments are likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress and clearly display racial hostility. There is no sensible argument to the contrary. But at PMQs it will be just be a source of much braying and tutting. In a few days, it will all be forgotten. The laws for ordinary people are applied with zero tolerance; for the ruling classes, there is always an excuse - context, freedom of expression etc. All the excuses which don’t provide a get out for the rest of us.
Agreed. As I said it's a waste of time, but as entertainment it should at least provide an embarrassing few minutes for Sunak, even if temporary inconvenience. If Starmer cannot nail him on this then it will be the ultimate missed open goal.
I've heard many Americans will be leaving the country if Trump wins the election.Dammit! My Brit passport needs renewing!!!!
Your comments would sound reasonable if the UK were a moderate country, it is not. Compared to its European neighbours it is a country of extremes. We have more very rich people than our neighbours but we have more poor too. We come bottom on many lists of European comparisons. Our pensions are among the lowest, our housing is the most expensive, our education system is towards the bottom, Our NHS falls way below countries like France and Germany. Our railways are the most expensive and ironically mostly nationalised but by France and Spain and Germany. They also own our water which produces dirty rivers and seas and expensive bills. Our roads are crumbling our motorway infrastructure is also smaller than most advanced countries Cyprus has far better roads than we do FFS. We have only two really successful industries . Finance and Armaments, Wow money and guns just like gangsters and that's appropriate, the UK is a gangster country. The British won't vote for dramatic change? They have it. Since 1979 the UK has followed a neoliberal path and the results you see before you. The wealthy in the Cotswolds must smile when they see the voters in places like Bradford and Scunthorpe or Hartlepool and Middlesbrough voting Tory. Now they can smile even more as a Starmer government will continue with the same neo liberal financial policies that turned the UK into a little USA with all of it's inherent inequalities. As long as the right wing press continue their dominance of the political story and first past the post preserves the status quo the mess that is the UK will continue to get worse. The one ray of hope is the fact that it is only a mater of time before Scotland breaks away from this madness. The 18 to 30 group in Scotland has a 70% majority wanting independence. Scotland is already better than England in terms of Education, health, water, railways and social care. Of course the media will tell you different. Wake up England.
Back to the Hester racism matter... So, Sunak (or at least a No10 spokesman) has admitted the comments were racist. However, there has been no acknowledgement of the 'shoot her' comments and no empathy towards Diane Abbott. Bad Enoch publishes 2 linked tweets: the first calls it racist but is empathy-lite, makes no mention of the 'shoot her' comments and refers to her Parliamentary 'colleague' as Abbott. The 2nd tweet actually manages to mitigate Hesters abuse. Today, the Government line (Hollinrake) is yes he said it, but it was a flippant comment many years ago, he's not a racist and he's apologised, so deserves praise for that. Therefore not only can we not cancel him and return his money, but we'd be able to take more in the future. 1. He's not apologised for racism. 2. He's not apologised for wishing her shot. (Which surely is the even more serious matter) 3. As posted earlier, the guy has a history of racist, aggressive commentary. FFS! What a ****ing shambles of a Government! Edit: And the client journalists and media are doing their best to stifle the story.
The wealthy in the Cotswolds have been smiling for many years that their poverty stricken neighbours still vote Tory. I've been an opponent of our terrible electoral system for more than 50 years but I think it might destroy the Tories completely in the next election. I don't think we would get a radical government whatever the system though. People are indoctrinated against anti-capitalist ideas. The main beneficiaries from a better system could be Reform but the Greens, who have by far the best policies, should do well too.
Yes the radical government is extremely unlikely but our problem in so many ways is this hangover from Empire. The 'British' cannot come to terms with being a small European country. They still want to be a world player so they hang onto to the coat tails of the USA. a USA who for the most part just uses the UK as a reinforcement of it's foreign policy. England wants to keep Scotland onside to reinforce this 'UK' image it has of itself. Once Scotland goes, and I am convinced it will, the reality of the small European country takes a step closer. Scotland will use Scandinavia as its model because that is where it actually belongs. Where will England go? The electorate needs to wake up. Just have a look at our small cities and towns they are 3rd world. As an Englishman I saw the truth of the real Britain in the 1960's when I spent time hitching around Europe just amazed at the quality they had compared to us and meeting young Europeans all better educated than us. The difference has only got greater. We caught up a bit when we were in the EU but we never embraced it. It's all very sad.
