I actually thought that towards the end of Nige’s reign when Nige was floating around on crutches, some of the fans were getting restless. The football was dire and results disappointing.. I think we were all onboard for the first 18 months but the style of football and some of the decision making we’re head scratching. Was definitely the case for me however positive I tried to stay..
I sometimes despair of both the fans - particularly on OTIB- and the directors of Bristol City. Between them both there is very little hope for the future. One lot are calling for LM to be sacked - but what the poor fools are forgetting is that IF that happens, Jon L and Brian T will simply dip back into the pool of inexperienced cheap ‘yes’ man managers to find his replacement. Beggars belief….
At least Nige had a history of bringing in good players and developing a team at this level and above, Liam on the other hand ….. doesn’t. SL appears to have stepped back from football recently. Letting JL run things, hopefully he’ll once again recognise the folly of that decision and step in before his son makes a complete ass of it, loses the “nest egg” and we end up penniless and back in L1.
Had being the operative word, past tense. This is why I was excited by his appointment. The problem is, for me, and clearly the board, we never really saw that history of doing well brought to City. I think far too many City fans (RR being at the fore) got seduced by the ‘big name’, that they wanted him to succeed so badly, they can’t accept it didn’t.
Should have had this season and funds and judged next season that was the right time to make decisions.
I completely agree. However 2 idiots chose differently and who knows if there was more to this decision than we been told. One the face of it, unless you're Supcon, it was sheer madness. I'd really appreciate JL to come clean, it may be harder for NP as we don't know the conditions/confidentiality agreement he had over settlement terms. But hey we have to give LM the summer and a dozen games next season.
Let's face it Tinman pulling the strings -Nige probably was not amused by that and Junior Lansdown trying to tell Nige how to do his job when taking the crown jewels away was the straw the broke the camels back.
I agree to a point, as I was shocked as anyone that he was let go, although I was concerned with his health condition at the time, which imo did play a part. I always felt he was a little cock sure in his ability that he could progress us with the players we had, dipping into the academy along the way.. I was also very confused in the style he wanted to play.. all out to score the first goal to then just sit and defend.. I think we’ve done this to death now and should get behind LM and hope he’s allowed some funds and time to see where it takes us.. He reminds me a bit of Eddie Howe when at Bournemouth… Doesn’t matter how you get there so long as you do.
YEP the nice thing is 90% of fans did not want Nige gone 10% maybe did- just shows how out of touch with the fanbase the owners are. However this is Bristol City a club that has stagnated for 40 years.
What would have been the icing on the cake for me, but I know would never happen and that is to appoint Nige as DOF.. might have been a good combo
I personally think he wanted to do a Leicester here and was only given the **** to deal with but not the cream-that is what has pissed many thousand of fans off.
Spot on, I’m still convinced his downfall wasn’t achievement related, that goes in the bin marked excuses, along with LM will improve us this season, all smoke and mirrors
I think most of us agree we didn’t want Nige to go - but that won’t change the past and bring him back. We should get behind Liam now. It’s interesting how over on OTIB a lot of posters want him gone and don’t like his football - saying it’s boring and defensive. It’s been said before on other topics that we all watch the same games, but see very different things!!!
They are right by the way-football is pants-where is this front foot quick football - Here are the true stats Manning is doing worse -SUPERCON FACTS City are averaging 1.18 points per game over Manning’s 22 league matches in charge, compared to 1.28 by his predecessor this season, representing a marginal downturn, but the 38-year-old was also appointed with the desire to evolve the Robins’ style from being a largely counter-attacking team to something more varied and with a focus on control of games, and not being so reactive and inconsistent.
I want to get behind Liam, but he has to earn my support, it wasn’t his fault what went on before. Most managers take over a struggling team at or near the bottom of their league and can gain support by steadying the ship and avoiding relegation. It wasn’t like that here, he took over a mid table team whose fan base on the whole didn’t want the manager to go, add into the equation we were told he’d improve us this season, top 10, top 6 depending who you listened too, he’s therefore on a hiding to nothing in a way, however he doesn’t help himself by not taking responsibility when we play badly and very poor, non existent in game management.
Maybe it’s because I like Chess that I like his brand of football. And before anyone sarcastically says it’s because it’s slow and boring… it’s because it’s strategic, well setup and can be exciting if everything comes together as planned.. imo
