Last few performances disappointing until Ipswich. We dipped below standards. I was disappointed, thought we were progressing before that run.

Dickie at 27 oldest on the pitch on Sunday. We Handled it well after not getting to grips with Swansea first half. It was a relief. Lads handled the challenge well.

Liam is a young coach, with different sorts of players and a young team. He’s learning - we’re happy, but want to be higher. Instant success is difficult, you have to build to get us playing how we want to play. Injuries haven’t helped. When everyone’s fit the squad is competitive.

I’ve earned the right to be in this position, worked really really hard. There to help and support the Head Coach. I work closely with Recruitment and offer suggestions of players for LM to decide.

We (I) came up with Liam as an option and the Board decided ultimately.

Style of play takes time. Look at Kieron McKenna. Won 2/12 at the start - it takes time to be what we want to be. We have to build on what we have done so far, then if we can add players we will. We won’t work with a big squad. He’s shown he can do it with some of our wins.

We want to play like we did at Watford, against Southampton, in the cup games {all counter attacking style}. Plan B was why we brought Scott Twine in. A goal, delivery, set piece - he can change those tight games.

Coventry have invested £23m. £15m on two strikers - they aren’t in that bracket {budget} any more.

Recruitment, we’re looking all the time.
Dickie £600,000. Cornick was £500,000
Jason Knight a good signing. Roberts good signing. McCrorie a good signing - think summer recruitment was really good. Twine had the quality to make the difference.

Mebude is fighting with other players to get a game. He’s a talent, he has pedigree - he had a chance against QPR and didn’t do what we’d hope, now he has to take his next chance.

Adam Murphy. Best young player in Irish football - his season finished November so he’s doing pre-season and getting fitter. No injury, just building up his fitness. Really good box-to-box young player.

It’s Liam’s job to pick the team. He plays Knight as a 10 leading the press (in response to a question).

I know how the fans feel. I’ve been here 30 years. People here have been here that long. We’re all fans and we all want success. The Lansdowns obviously want success.

We planned well in January to get Stokes and Bird and stop competition. We’ll add 1 or 2. A physical striker with power and pace is top of the list. A different profile is needed. And a number 10 or another attacking wide player.

Scouting team watching lots abroad. The rules have changed to help that. Definitely - most likely - to be a striker from abroad.

Tommy Conway has a year left. We’re in constant conversations and we want him to stay. Everyone does.

We have to be more potent in the final third.

GK competition might be a position we have to look at. Bajic won’t be happy with lack of games.

When the fans are behind the team, the players love it. They thrive on it. We all want the same - the young squad really needs that support.

If we can be about ten points better off this time next year, that’s where we would expect to be

U18s such a good group, been playing at the right level (not 21s) to try & succeed - have a real go at FA Youth Cup. Top of the league and now in semi-finals. Pathway always there.

Youngsters not been filling bench to let U18s focus on cup and 21s on their games.

Idehen/Taylor-Clarke/Kadji “a few have had their opportunity but missed their opportunity. They’ve got to go and prove again. “We’ve got to clear it now to let 18s come through”

 

I’m not normally a fan of what BT says, especially when co-commentating. But the above assessment imo is pretty much spot on.

My gut feeling is BT is running the show god knows why made a cock up in management-NP and BT did not see eye to eye -Big say in LM appointment -for me a part of the problem at Ashton Gate.

 

A decision was made over NP's departure... the why's we dont know. But peering through the smoke for the flame it could be construed he /it was a number of things...
Illness ... lack of presence on training ground .... a very self person .... [ latter meaning ] disagreements with others opinions ... his attitude corrupted by the fact no on going contract talks!!!!

The last comment could be a trap to make issues worse [ NP stubborn attitude toward higher authority ] so NP dug his heels in! ............

 

Or he fell out with JL, the reason given for the departure was plainly nonsense, it then becomes a question of who you believe, JL doesn’t have a great record in that department. Most fans would not trust his version of events

Purely by virtue of being owners son, Nige doesn’t suffer fools maybe ?

 

BT says he deserves his role because he’s been at the club 30 years, he also said LM needs more time, ignoring the fact he was bought here to have an immediate affect, and doesn’t understand why those two conflicting statements are in a large part the reason the fans are annoyed. The man’s an idiot, seems to have been decent in his previous role overseeing the academy, but completely out of his depth now.

 

Here are the true stats officially LM is doing worse than NP glad we can put that to bed.

City are averaging 1.18 points per game over Manning’s 22 league matches in charge, compared to 1.28 by his predecessor this season, representing a marginal downturn, but the 38-year-old was also appointed with the desire to evolve the Robins’ style from being a largely counter-attacking team to something more varied and with a focus on control of games, and not being so reactive and inconsistent.

 

Brian Tinnion appears to claim that he has a right to be where he is due to his 30 years of service to Bristol City but I can't help but notice that other offers for his service are non-existent. Reading between the lines I think his presence is probably down to him being a nodding dog when it comes to having any say in Lansdown's decisions and I would further think that his tacit approval to hire Liam Manning was because he (LM) would probably get a lower ranking in the pecking order below BT. If indeed Liam is deemed to be a lower minion than Tinnion then why on earth did he decide to join Bristol City, or did he get the full on questionable promises that we have been getting all these years? I am now firmly of the impression that these serial failures at anything to do with football are almost staged with a script that won't allow us to go beyond a certain point and that will be the only way we will proceed. I have said many times before that I have great difficulty understanding why such a successful businessman fails at everything he does with Bristol City, unless it boosts his own ego.

Egos don't win success but due diligence and correct decisions have a better chance.

 

Tinnion appears to be a total yes man Mike.

I can see why LM wanted the job/ He's come to a mid sized Championship club with a higher profile than Oxford. And should he prove himself here, then he may get even better offers.

All ifs and buts at this stage, but have to say that I've been underwhelmed by him so far.
