Yes, that and being really physical. Didn't expect it from a footballing side but they seemed to have both in their locker. They largely bullied Philogene out of the game, going up the back of him every time he received it. A couple of times we had the ball, they tackled or barged us hard and somehow won themselves a free kick doing it. I think it was a difficult game to ref but it was interesting to see what the top teams do that we don't. Football wise they did a lot of the same stuff we do but on the physical side and playing the ref side of things they looked a bit more clever.
Most entertained I've been at a home game for ages, points a point but probably should have been 3. Coyle and slater where fantastic
We obviously need to be able to compete physically. Don't think I or anyone has ever said you don't. What I've argued against is your often-stated view that we absolutely have to have a big holding midfielder.to provide that. Leicester didn't have a big unit in there. They had little Harry Winks knitting it together from the base of midfield just like Seri does for us. But they were physical as a team. As I've said before, anyone is allowed to be physical, you don't have to be the designated big man. James Justin was kicking Philogene all over and it worked. Vardy is physical too.
I didn’t say it necessarily has to be a tall defensive midfielder (though height helps for aerial duels and there needs to be balance when Seri, Slater, Ömür and Carvalho are all short-arses). But we do need a defensive midfielder who is actually good at the erm… defensive side of things.
Ok. I don't agree that it's an issue for us but we've done that to death plenty of times and it's separate to the physicality issue I was talking about.
Cracking game today - really enjoyed it. Two good teams both trying to win the game. We have now set the standard that we need to maintain if we are to claim a play off place.
I thought the no subs thing was going to be an issue, but then I actually looked at all the players and nobody was actually tired, they were just as mobile and energetic as they were in the first ten minutes. That's a massive positive as well. Suppose also with a three week break ( ) we have time to recharge our batteries. Be nice if the club put on a couple of exhibition friendlies against some non-English clubs that also have a break, just to fill the void.
Very entertaining match, City stepped up after Tuesday night and to be honest we looked better than Leicester at many points. Vardy is the ugly annoying niggly **** that scores goals that we are missing from our squad. Although picking a fight with South Stand did make me laugh. Bit like our cat that sits on the window ledge and gives it out to any other passing cat (but runs away if caught outside). week after week I look at the away team and think they’re full of massive bastards (Vestergaard today) and we just look lightweight in comparison. We’re a team of technical players but I do think we need to work on our physically and learn to not be bullied off the ball and be a bit cleverer at getting at the opposition.
So what are we arguing about tonight ? It's hard to keep track sometimes I think if every game was as entertaining as that nobody could really complain about anything We might finish in the top 6 this season , we might not , I'm looking forward to seeing what happens
We’ve got a tough run in and really need more output from Carvalho and Zaroury - having Philogene back to his best would also help. Omur looks and absolute bargain! His heat map from the game is ridiculous - pretty much covered the whole pitch!
All the players where still fine etc, I think the more telling sign could be that he obviously didn't think he had anyone on the bench that could come on and make an impact and win the game. That's a tad worrying imo... Was he happy to settle for a point?
Brilliant game of football first and foremost, and in the end a draw probably a fair result. Having said that, being in front twice and missing a penalty, then I can understand Liam's frustration we didn't get all 3 points. As he pointed out, 2 mistakes, one from the throw in for their penalty, and switching off after we had just scored our second, both with a bit more awareness would have resulted in them not scoring. Nevertheless, an excellent performance by the whole team, for me Slater, Seri, Coyle, Omur and Carvalho the standouts. Giles, Jones and Greaves (pity about him picking up a yellow) had very solid games as did Zaroury. It's starting to look like a 4 horse race for the 2 top six places between West Brom, Norwich, City, and Coventry, and if we can play like we did yesterday in the remaining games we have a good chance of making it. It now remains to be seen whether these 3 weeks hiatus have a positive or negative effect, let's all hope for the former! Points of note. Vardy is still a twat! What has happened to Furlong, since Jacob made his breakthrough he has disappeared? Docherty seems also to be being used less often now, probably signalling a departure this summer. Jim Simms departure seems a strange one! Ohio is an interesting one, I just wonder whether they are look to sign him on a permanent, and looking to next season for him to start to feature. Acun stayed in the area after the Birmingham game until last night, but flew mid-week to Belgium and back in a day, just wonder whether Ohio was the reason?
I don’t think the draw was a fair result, I think we were the better team, we’re only saying it’s a fair result because it’s Leicester. Onwards and upwards
I missed patches of the game but what I saw we seemed quite dominant against a side who until recently was being looked at as the best ever in the Championship (at least in terms of the points record). The fact we only came away with a point and it felt disappointing is quite remarkable. That being said, the defending/tracking on Vardy for their equaliser was diabolical.
