Good player, but surely our priority is back up for Ade.

Obviously if we could get Hoilett for a knock down price, say £5/6m then do it.

If we're going to sell Lennon or Bale then the need changes of course, and he'd be well worth £9m.

  4. I'd welcome him to the side. I think he'd add something to the squad. Certainly, Harry seems to be impressed with him.

This is the link I came across, which seems to be identical to many others:-

Not for that price. £9 million for a player with 6 months left on his contract. Are they having a laugh? If it was Goetze, Hazard, Marin or someone of that stature it might be an acceptable fee, but realistically Hoilett isn't going to get much playing time in our squad, and is therefore not worth that amount of money.

Good player and I'd happily have him at Spurs but doubt he'd join knowing he'd be back up. At this moment, there's not many players on the market that we could afford/ attract that are better than our current first XI.

Agree WY, unless we're selling Lennon or Bale, £9m seems too much.

While I think he would be a welcome addition to the squad, I do think that £9m is way too much for someone with 6 months left on their contract.

That said, do you think that another player we have been linked with, who is in the same position, a certain Mr Gary Cahill would be worth that?? Personally, after the big improvement shown by Kaboul, do we need him?? Or would he be a good long term replacement for Ledders??

I wanted Cahill in the summer but only at the right price.

As of now, I'm not fussed if we get him or not and I certainly wouldn't pay anything above £5m for him due to his contract status (the same applies for Hoilet). Kaboul and Ledley have been fantastic and I wouldn't want that being broken up. Gallas, Dawson and Bassong (plus Charlie if desperate) are, in my opinion, more than worthy of getting game time when possible with us and so while Cahill is a brilliant defender, it'd probably be a waste to get him unless we get an injury crisis at centre back as I'd have Kaboul and Ledley any day. Besides, judging from what I've seen, Chelsea NEED him as Luiz looks f*cking awful to me and I'm pretty sure if both parties are still interested in him in Jan, Chelsea will blow us out the water to secure his services.

I agree, Luiz looks absolute garbage...however, now that we're one of the big boys now, should we sign Cahill so nobody else can have him???

Good question, see what you mean by taking the "man city" approach and just buy everyone to stop the opposition from improving, but at the same time, on our day, we're good enough to break down any defence in the league so I think signing Cahill or not wouldn't affect us too much. Though only time can tell on that. Chelsea need two new centre backs to replace Luiz AND Terry, so signing Cahill will only get half the job done for them.

A lot depends on Dawson, if he's fit by January would we want Cahill at the price Bolton would want? But if Daws is still not ready to play and Gallas continues with his injury problems, then yep all for getting him in.

Still think cover for Ade is the number one issue.

Totally agree! Is Junior Hoilett the man though? Surely we can attract better players??

Hoilett won't be cover/ a replacement for Ade. He's more of a winger/ second striker. Ade's a target man and someone who happily leads the line. Someone like Damiao is cover/ a replacement/ competition for Ade. I really hope we get Ade on a permanent deal in Jan though, I think leaving it 'til the summer is far too risky.

This rumour's been doing the rounds for about a month, and already the asking price has dropped from £18m to £9m.

£6m with add-ons sound about right?

Wouldn't offer any add-ons for a player who'll be free to leave at the end of the season.

I did think of sending them a youngster on loan for the remainder of the season as part of the deal, but I honestly can't think of anyone whose development would be helped at Blackburn this season.

Good point, maybe Carroll to try help toughen him up but can see where you're coming from, he'd probably come back with nightmares of the big mean giant that is Chris Samba!

Wouldn't mind seeing some of the deadwood being exchanged - Pav/ Pienaar/ Gio (although I've always had a soft spot for Gio, he'll never get a chance with us).

It'd be more a case of who could help them who would struggle to make our Europa League bench. I'd send GDS and Pienaar.
