Hello and welcome to the official Not606 match thread for Sunday's Barclays Premier League encounter between Liverpool & Manchester City. Season So Far. I'll start with the home team. Liverpool have had a solid start to the season. We currently sit 6th in the table with 22 points from 12 games. Highlights of our season include wins at Arsenal, Everton and Chelsea. This shows that we can get results at grounds which are normally difficult to get results at. The problem, in my opinion, is our home games against teams who, on paper, we should be beating. Home draws against newly-promoted Norwich & Swansea are games in which we have dropped points. We need to start winning these games if we are to push for a Champions League place. After our win at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, it gives us confidence going into this game. And onto the away team. Manchester City have had an excellent start to the Premier League season. Roberto Mancini's men sit top of the league with 34 points from 12 games. This means that Manchester City have only dropped 2 points away at Fulham. Highlights of their season include a 5-1 victory at Tottenham Hotspur, a 4-0 victory at Blackburn Rovers and that 6-1 demolition of rivals Manchester United. At the moment, City look like the favourites for the Barclays Premier League title but there is a long, long way to go. The Champions League has been a different story for City. After their 2-1 loss away at Napoli, Roberto Mancini said his side only had a 30% chance of getting out of the group and into the knockout stages. They sit third in their group and have to beat Bayern Munich and hope that Villarreal can get something against Napoli. Team/Injury News. Manchester City have a full squad available apart from Owen Hargreaves (Fitness) and Carlos Tevez. (Not in the plans of Mancini) Liverpool have a full squad available apart from Steven Gerrard (Ankle) and Jack Robinson. this game is one that i am sort of confident of. City won't come to defend that's for sure so i think our game style suits counter attacking and so i think we can kick on and give a home performance more like our away games.... this season. don't get me wrong i think this one is much harder than utd or chelsea were but i think we can compete. I'd happily take a good draw if we give a good account of ourselves. dzeko, aguero, toure, silva are all pure class but you can get about barry and look at thier CBs with a bit of hope.
If I had to put my savings (the entire £61.27p) on it, I'd have to go for City to win. However, I don't think we should be afraid of them, if we play the right way a good result is always possible. City's highly indifferent form in the CL shows they are not invincible. They're certainly full of confidence in the Prem but if we can do something to shake that confidence who knows what might happen? No PL match is a foregone conclusion- it all depends on who turns up on the day. I'm really looking forward to it.
Woulld like to think we can pop city's bubble at anfield but I reckon it will be a tough ask. CMON REDMEN!
I don't think we will be as expansive at Anfield as we have been and expect us to be a bit more circumspect,it could end up as one of those games where both are happy to settle for a point. I would expect city to line up 4 2 3 1 Hart Richards Kompany Lescott Clichy De Jong Barry Milner yaya. Silva Aguero Last seasons mauling is still fresh in our minds, coupled with our dreadful record at Anfield makes me think it's just a game to get out of the way with limited damage.I felt Liverpool simply wanted it more last season so I hope we've learnt our lesson from it Op fyi We have no significant injury worries and apart from Hargreaves who would be unlikely to figure anyway and the Argie tosspot,we have a clean bill of health
We have been starting slowly recently and fortunately we have got away with it, QPR and Newcastle gave us a fecking hard time and no one will be taking this game lightly, our disappointment in the CL could work for us or against us and as Mancini didn't come out of it unscathed I hope he feels he has a point to prove. I hope we come out determined to make amends for our CL performance and prove our run so far has not been a flash in the pan, you are playing well and I expect a very close game. I don't think my nerves can stand much more.
I was positive before the Stoke, Spurs, Norwich and Swansea games...and negative before the Wolves, Everton, WBA, Stoke (Carling Cup) and Chelsea games. I'm not superstitious but...I don't want to cost us the game.
Bluff said he's going to miss the game so we're nailed on to win it Personally I can't see City going gung-ho for this one I think it'll be them trying to keep ball as much as poss early on and frustrate us into mistakes so it's up to us to get at them as we did the Chavs and most importantly use possession wisely. An early goal for us would be nice Come on the Redmen!!
Zingy. That statement makes no sense whatsoever. It sounds like something that would be uttered by a woman.
Can't wait for this game BRING IT ON CITY should be end to end stuff and be a really good game with nice attacking football from both teams will there be a lot of goals or will it be a 1-0 game for either team
