Tell that to the Beale out brigade before a ball was kicked. Roy Keane! Would shut the curtains if he was in my back garden. Gobshite.
Folk may remember my reaction to Keane being linked last time. He is a one man circus. If he turns up here somebody has seriously lost the plot in our club. He has very little credibility as any sort of coach, or at least very little to earn him credibility. It would be a complete car crash in my opinion. Maybe last time the players were in a bit of awe of his playing career, which is understandable. The modern player will only know him as a sneering idiot off tele.
Keane said recently on the "Stick to football" podcast that a manager can't do every job now and he thinks a director of football is key to a successful football club and he'd be open to working under that model.
Who is the highest scoring midfielder in Premier League history? Frank Lampard Frank Lampard – 177 Goal Jermain Defoe Forward, Profile & Stats Premier League Premier League Record ; Appearances. 496 ; Goals. 162 ; Assists. 33 Logic would assume the same for Lampard who not forgetting was a midfielder and also has a track record of management in the Championship, but I do not think I would be happy if we appointed him even though he did OK at Derby (with some very good loan players from Chelsea)
I don't mind Keane as a pundit. He's opinionated and does lots of eye rolling which makes him mildly entertaining. I don't buy the hard man persona though. He just used to scowl at people a bit. I used to like a tackle when I played- doesn't make me hard. He'll twat Speakman? More likely to run away from him in my opinion. He ran away from Saipan and he flounced out of Sunderland as soon as someone said something he didn't like. He's too sensitive and hasn't got the balls to stick with it when things get tough. In my opinion of course.
On the subject of Keane, although I think it’s incredibly unlikely, I think his type of personality and professionalism with regards to what he would expect from a player is exactly the sort of character we need Letting others look after certain areas is one thing but there would probably be a monumental clash with Speakman. I also think he would demand we balance the team with some experience…as would most managers interested in the job. It’s glaringly obvious we need one or two older heads to help the young lads on the pitch and that doesn’t mean any old ****.
I went to say similar yesterday and didn't bother. He had an hard man act and was tough on the pitch but he was never known for violence off it so unlikely to go and twat a boss is he. People talking about him and level of professionalism which is fair enough he expected it and I think some players pissed him off when here when they didn't have it but I can't get out of my head the fact it was said he never lived here and would come up 1 or 2 days before a match only. This doesn't seem committed or professional to me and you can't expect it from players if you don't lead by example, Exemplo Ducemus!
I'm really not sure why this is being said now, I thought it was common knowledge he was renting a house on the biggish posh estate on the outskirts of Durham, near Nevlle's Cross. And he also used to get down Durham city centre for a few pints during the week. Also, back then training used to be open rather than nowadays when it's only open for special days. Back then you could tip up to watch the lads training and I took the bairn a canny few times and Keane was always there, great with the kids and got a few photos of him with the bairn. O'Neill never used to turn up until a couple of days before matchday, maybe people are getting the pair of them mixed up.
To be fair, I'm pretty sure I'd heard it about both of them. Common denominator? They both played under Brian Clough who was known for doing the same. Edit: I had also heard he lived in the Neville's Cross area, so that kind of suggests it wasn't true.
Just all matter of opinion mate...none us really know till someone's in the position and I doubt very much KS would put his nads on the plate at the moment with no one that doesn't have a track record.
Fair enough mate, sounds like I am getting managers mixed up. I remember it being said Short questioned him on a few things and was reason he wrapped it in! In my head it was that.
"Accusations about how often I came in". Keane's words, as reported here- https://m.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/sp...gue/keane-why-i-left-sunderland/28467976.html
