They have called it a policy. They had 100mil off Grealish in 2021/22 Aston Villa: 2019/20 -£32.1m 2020/21 -£274.9m 2021/22 £0.4m - Grealish effect - this is -£306.6m including a big covid declared loss. As we know that this is was cleared by the prem it must be no issue. 2022/23 -119.6mil = rolling 3 year will be -£394.46 2023/24 - needs to be +14.2mil - to make it exactly -105 over 3 years This is over simplistic analysis based on declared profit and loss. not everything in the P&L number goes to FFP. however it demonstrates the issues clubs are facing. I would expect some homegrown player to be sold to balance that massive issue and amortisation level of 90 odd million per year they have accrued through spending. Villa owners have even admitted their past sales were to balance FFP rather than anything else. they let Ramsey go for example. Cameron Archer, Aaron Ramsey, and Jaden Philogene brought in nearly 40million for them last year and that offsets the 90mil in amortisation ONE TIME This is the same debate as Chelsea. how can they keep on making the amortisation number bigger and bigger and offset it for each of the 5 years it applies to. Villa paid 15mil for douglas luiz in 2019. Thats all but wiped out of selling him for a massive fee now would make sense I think this should all sink in. the first thing city did was build an academy and stadium for it that is utter ridiculous but a statement of intent. While that went on they cheated massively to get ahead. Now city have palmer leaving to find football but a series of young players coming behind him and foden sat there looking good. City might be massive cheats and defrauding the world with their revenue numbers but they are nothing if not smart. Cheslea have sold the crown jewels on the other hand to fund an ego trip splurge. Lfc have worked hard over 10 years to develop and bring the club together to generate players and did it on a sustainable model. If you look at LFc numbers for ffp 2019/20 -£9.5m 2020/21 £69.1m 2021/22 £7.5m = +67.1mil 2022/23 - 9mil = +67.6mil This shows we are "stable" but will expect a loss due to europa to coming in as we bought a whole new midfield rather than tighten the belt. We have worked for 10 years to develop a "squad" with more than 1 player per slot and a lot of that has come from patience and youth now. I simply cannot see how a side like villa and sustain where they are at today without an injection of youth talent. Their best 11 Martinez Cash mings/Konsa torres moreno Kamara Luiz Diaby mcginn Bailey/ramsey Watkins even just take watkins out of that side or just knock the flow of goals down and they sink. teilemans or digne are just expensive wages on the bench.
It's been their past strategy. They're banking on huge revenue increases to offset the losses. If they hadn't been promoted from the Championship then they would have had massive difficulties. Now it looks like they're banking on CL money. It's Ridsdale at Leeds all over again.
maybe so but the owner has deep pockets at the same time so it will remain to be seen if he's willing to cover the losses and suck up the fines. He's a lot richer than moshiri anyway. for me FFP is specifically designed to reign in this type of thing
we are now in the odd situation where being a famous female football trumps all. Sam kerr from Chelsea is in court for racially harassing a London police officer. apparently cheslea "fully support her" am I alone in thinking that if any male footballer was charged with this it'd be very very different?
Racial abuse shouldn't be tolerated under any circumstances and clubs shouldn't be supporting anyone who indulges in it. In the current climate where everything has turned on its head, I wouldn't like to guess the outcome. Is she black by any chance? And the police officer white?
I don't know her race: Possibly mixed. She's Australian, not from New Zealand so not an all black. She called the police officer a "stupid white bastard". Which under other circumstances where white is substituted for any other race or colour would certainly be considered a slur. Is it as bad calling someone a "white bastard" as it would be calling someone a "black bastard"? I think the answer to that is subjective more than objective. The sentiment is certainly the same and the intent to offend is the same, but one could argue, and they probably will argue that it doesn't hold the same weight because no one ever feels genuinely threatened or marginalized for "being white". Either way, it's a stupid and ignorant type of statement for someone to say and in the court of my own general opinion I rule that she is a bitch. (Based only on the evidence provided) Exhibit A being, she plays for Chelsea.
Think it’s really tricky when it comes to using term ‘white’ in any kind of racist abuse. in theory you’d say, yes if calling someone a black something is racists then calling someone white something is surely racists as you’re focusing on the racial part of it. However throughout most of history white people have had the privilege and being white wasn’t seen as a negative so being called white isn’t really an insult in those terms. I can see arguments on both sides of this. If someone called me a white dick I wouldn’t be any more offended than being called just a dick. I prob wouldn’t think it was racist abuse tbh.
Not having a go at you but this comment is exactly what I was talking about when I said - in the current climate, everything has been turned on its head. White privilege? Racial abuse is racial abuse whether the person it's directed at is offended or not. The minute you insert race into a comment, it's a racist comment.
Like I say I don’t think there’s a right or wrong on this. I can’t argue that what you say is wrong. In my opinion, I can’t take offence by someone calling me a ‘white something’ because in my life me being white hasn’t had any negative implications so I don’t personally see it as a bad thing hence it being used as a racial insult. I know that people don’t judge me when walking down the street and possibly cross the road to avoid walking past me. I know that the police are far less likely to stop me in the street for no reason. However I can understand that isn’t the view point of every single person and others may find it just as offensive. I would ask, why does being called Whitt offend someone? Not because I don’t think they should be but because me personally it wouldn’t even trigger in my mind that it’s more offensive. But I appreciate that’s my own personal opinion and if others had a reason to feel offended that is wholly their right. Taking race out of it, I personally rarely get offended by anything anyone could say. To me words mean nothing in that regard. They are just words and they can’t physically hurt me and I’m lucky enough that I’ve never really struggled with mental health in that words could do damage to that. Pretty easy going laid back person - but I know that’s not everyone. Maybe that plays into my earlier points?
I wouldn't take offence to someone calling me white; I'm proud of who I am and where I come from so I'd take it as a compliment rather than an insult as probably intended. However, you can't have it one way and not the other. If "black something" is racist, than "white something" is too. I often say there are two fights in the world in this area and they often get confused / merged and it doesn't work; racism and equality. You're arguing the racism angle whereas I'm saying that's not equality.
As a general rule I'm not inclined to take offence unless offence is intended. In the case in question as reported, it was obviously meant to be offensive, and although for historical reasons it may not bite as deeply as the other way round, it still isn't something that we should just wave away. Racism can work both ways, and the law should treat all people as equals.
I will say, the Premier League has had programs like "Kick out Racism" and taking the knee. Not sure if women's games have same thing... But even if "not as bad" she's still making a mockery of that.
its amazing to me that the uk has never ever charged any footballer or manager with tax dodging. it has to be rife. it's not like they don't have the exact same accountants and a lot of managers like anchelotti were in the uk. I'm sure he used the exact same wheezes to store his massive Everton image rights
tax avoidance is rife…..and perfectly legal if your wealth managers are smart enough (and they usually are) If you have enough money, you simply employ people to manage your wealth and they find as many ways of saving money away tax free. Tax evasion is illegal, obviously.
The spanish have nailed just about every major name to clean it up. The fact nobody has even even been sniffed out of revenue tells me that the UK are asleep at the wheel here.
Prob cos most of the gov are using the same loopholes so don’t want to start going down that rabbit hole
I think this statement from Klopp perfectly illustrates his mentality. Sometimes we get into discussions about the relative merits of various competitions and how much commitment we should give to them.
