The genius that is Andy Scott said in the summer that our recruitment system needed addressing. We're still waiting.
The January window was better than previous ones. Small and Coventry are very good signings, Reg and Gillesphey are fine, Ramsey looked good before he got injured and Bakinson did well last night. And we signed a good manager.
I fear it’s like banging your head against a wall trying to convince the doom and gloom merchants that things have actually improved- obviously not at the speed they’d appreciate
The Yanks brought Jones in, Scott would not have wanted him in as that involved money and is now the case, has been made surplus to requirements due to Jones' input.....IMO.
I know nothing about nothing, but I do know that this January we brought in some decent players and adecent manager. The owners are in the shadows, the SMT are bullsh1tters.
Very succinct summary black and white one. As far as improvement is concerned it’s a matter of perspective. Have we improved since the January signings came in - yes Have we improved this season over last season - no In the former case it’s a very low achievement. Until two games ago we were at the very lowest position in the club’s entire history. The fact that we are now slightly above that is hardly cause to celebrate or congratulate those responsible for this predicament. I for one will continue to criticise until we are at least back to where we were when they took over. In the latter case, that’s just pure failure. 10th last season was a very low bar, and yet because of the SMT’s bullsh*t and miserly spending we have had arguably the worst season in our history. If some are happy with that and see no cause for complaint then good on them. BB would be proud. My bigger concern is for the future. The SMT have stated that the primary aim is to reduce losses by several million pounds per year. Income from ticket sales must be down, so it’s obvious how this will be achieved, if indeed it is. Making a profit through player sales is another stated aim of the SMT. They must be licking their lips at the performances of Kanu and Anderson. And Leaburn should fetch a pretty penny also. And will the money be put back into the squad ? No it won’t, because that wouldn’t help to achieve the primary aim of reducing losses by several million. So it’s not doom and gloom for the sake of it - it’s a realistic look at where we are and where we are likely to be going with the current strategy.
I think we all know we're having a sh1t season, but it looked like being a helluva lot worse, with relegation at least 50/50,and all the ramifications that would follow. Things have taken an upward turn or am i missing something?
I was referring to two different previous replies. Your summary was pretty accurate I believe. And Smudger’s assertion that things have improved after the January window is also accurate. But my point is - improved from what ? Some are happy that we are no longer 20th and pick out the positive in that, but for me we should never have been that low in the first place so an ’improvement’ to a position where we are still below where we finished last season is not an improvement at all. It’s an absolute failure and disgrace. And unless the strategy changes, the failure will continue. Nathan Jones’ success is masking an underlying sickness within the club.
I imagine Scott will be outed in the summer, his position is untenable after the Yanks came over and Jones was telling people what players to bring in. The shelf stackers mate has now buttoned it and his greasy smile is no more. What does Gerry Adams actually do? A clean sweep beckons.
We know Charlie, AKA Mary, is a co-owner so can’t be sacked. What other role/s he has for which he is paid, who knows ? Gerry, AKA Mungo, is Chairman and Managing Director, for which he is no doubt being paid very well for overseeing failure. He is also on the Board of Directors. Is he also a co-owner ? Who knows ? Can he be sacked ? Who knows ? Andy Scott, AKA Midge is Technical Director (??) for which he is no doubt being paid very well for overseeing failure. He is also on the Board of Directors. Is he also a co-owner ? Who knows ? Can he be sacked ? Who knows ? Who has what voting rights ? Who knows ? Who is majority shareholder ? Who knows ? Who controls who is appointed and who can be sacked ? Who knows ? At least with Thomas we knew who owned us and who was getting paid for what and the management costs were far less than now. You might think that with this new, expensive, professional management team in place things would improve on the pitch and we’d see our league position go up. But oh no, not only do they cost more and are shrouded in mystery, but they also manage to give us a worse team, which finishes lower than under the previous regime and has flirted with relegation for the past two months. Everyone still happy with this “improvement” ?
I'm sick and tired of watching away fans celebrating I've been to every home game and it's nearly 4 months since I saw a Charlton win. It's been a horrible time watching the dire performances and late capitulation by the worst Charlton team in my 50 years supporting. Whatever has happened behind the scenes, and we can only guess, it seems we've pulled back from the brink, so atm I'm fairly happy, and will be even happier when I see a home win.
Whether January marked a change in our recruitment policy remains to be seen. We were in a desperate situation and looked quite likely to go down. That would have been a disaster even for the SMT, so maybe we did nudge up our player criteria slightly. And with Jones replacing Appleton it has done the job. But what will happen in the summer ? That’s the big question. Will we spend decent money to give ourselves a good chance of promotion or will it be a return to the cheap, injury prone options which have characterised this SMT prior to January 24 and will leave us languishing mid table League 1 forever more ?
We've signed Connor Wickham until the end of April. That's only a few weeks,so nothing to lose. No idea if he's fit. We'll see.
