On a tangent, this thread made me think of Poll handing out three yellow cards to the same player in a world cup game and made me laugh.

It's just the latest example of the power of trial by media in the court of public opinion.

Depends what you're referring to as the mistake. Giving the drop to the wrong team is minor but he missed the red card for kicking a player in the head, that's a big one. However, VAR should have picked that up too.

Everyone seems to be far more exercised by the technical error and its bogus repercussions than a mere kick in the head.

I know, the kicks been completely ignored. I was crazily thinking the folks that manage referees might have thought about it <doh>

I think it’s because every angle of the incident shone is from behind the play etc. the only time I’ve seen it is in a clip someone posted here which showed it from front angle where can clearly see it.

Woukdnt surprise me if all the pundits talking about it weren’t even aware as hadn’t seen the decent angle

Possibly, but I wasn't talking about pundits, I was talking talking about the powers that be that decided to take Tierney off on-pitch duty for "that mistake"

funnily enough the refs word is final.

That's how it has been and still is. No ref has even been told to overturn their decision, they are actually advised as to what can be seen and they make the call. That's the rule.

Same as go to the screen, the ref is making the call

Same as if the goal line beeps. the ref is not deferring to anyhting he is deciding to award the goal based on the input.

Tierney decided to drop a ball at Kelleher's feet. thats all. he could decide next week to drop it at hudson odoi's feet.

he could decide to **** on the ball and make them play with it.

its entirely up to him and nobody can stop him

I think that might get him into a little bother for a certain lack of decorum.

only with the police. if he doesn't write the fact he shat on the ball in his official.match report then it never happened.

They would probably stop the game for five minutes while VAR decides if he shat on the ball or not.

There's only one way to be sure. One of us needs to befriend a Premier League Referee and convince him to try it out.

    there's that. :emoticon-0140-rofl:

but then there's befriending a ref. that's like befriending a person who likes to dress up in rubber nazi outfits while getting shouted at and called names. nobody wants a friend like that.
