More division and Islamophobia. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...spread-from-fringes-to-mainstream-uk-politics
Not sure where to put this, but my father in law has a new documentary out next week on BBC2 on Tuesday (and iPlayer). It's about the British informant, "Stakeknife", who was at the top of the IRA's notorious 'nutting squad', and who was believed to have been involved in up to 20 murders.
If people are genuinely concerned that there's a woke agenda, and it's being supported/driven by 'mainstream media' - I'd politely suggest that actually reading said mainstream media might be a sensible idea in order to back up, or challenge such assertions (and no, before anyone starts, this isn't a dig at Os or IOAG - it's a general point about how people use catch-alls without actually looking *properly* at stuff. It's a Trump thing where phrases, nicknames and sayings become more powerful than content). If you read The Sunday Times comment section today (always the best part of the paper IMHO), the headlines for the pieces are as follows: Political Correctness Has Supressed Debate We Must Have On Immigration If Segregation Is Centre Stage In Theatreland, It's Curtains For Equality Indulging Killers' Trans Delusions Is Dangerous All of which are very well put together arguments and points, agree with them or not. This supposed agenda doesn't really exist, if you actually take the time to read the media itself (something I'd continue to recommend strongly that everyone do).
Cherry picking articles to suit your point. It does exist. And it’s even worse than you think because it’s not just mainstream media, it’s being taught in schools as part of the curriculum
I’m genuinely not. That was just todays Sunday Times. I read The Times every day, and there’s anything but a ‘woke agenda’. I agree some of it is a concern, including in schools and, more so, in universities. But it’s not some globalist agenda incorporating the media.
You'll have to join the anti-woke culture war waged by the conservatives, the reform party, the EDF and others as well as rightwing media. Your choice of sides.
National insurance cut would benefit richest households by 12 times more than poorest | New Economics Foundation Even our bribes are now totally skewed towards Tory cronies. All the right wing press seem to be leading with how much money we will all get back in our pockets. Well, anyone earning under 30k will get about £18 a month. Meanwhile, the country is falling to pieces. Tax cuts at this moment should be resulting in cries of "shame" in the Commons.
First time I’ve ever felt that way about my country; even when our football hooligans were smashing up European town squares, and Margaret Thatcher was generating headlines like Up Yours Delors, I always felt that wasn’t really us; that we were a tolerant people beyond those aberrations. I’m not so sure any more.
If they don’t, I’m seriously tempted to **** off to France. Except France appears equally ****ed, albeit in other ways.
Pretty sure most of the world is swinging back to the right again. I don’t know why but it is depressing.
The problem is the world isn’t swinging to just right of centre, but a lot right of centre (not quite far right…yet)
