Always remember our first game; nearly 1,000 passes & just managed a late, late winner. Would have pretty laughable if it had been a draw. Still, this is what we have & we’re in with a slim chance of autos.
Think it's all but over now mate. 3 teams just way too strong for us over the course of a season. Fair play to them but I'm a bit annoyed of what could have been.
No that would also be the tactics. Sometimes Martin gets it right (against poorer teams) other times he gets it wrong. He never bothers to change it and thats why we've been found out and that's why we're conceding a **** tonne of goals. We can just hope that we get it right over 3 games in the play offs.
Because we've thrown away our auto promotion chances due to the hubris of our manager and it will be so much tougher next season.
We have scored more goals than Leeds, we're 4 behind Ipswich (with one fewer match played), and 3 behind Leicester (one fewer match). Our "500 pass football" isn't the problem: it results in lots and lots of goals. Our problem is that our defense has had two periods during the year where they forgot how to do basic defensive tasks. On the year, our record when we allow one or fewer goals in the league: 18 wins, 5 draws, 1 loss, good for 59 points in 24 matches. We've scored in every Championship match since mid-September. The attack is pretty convincingly doing its job. We just need consistency at the back.
Expected them all to win and they did. If anything I'm surprised Leicester and Leeds didn't win more convincingly, but 3 points is all that matters. Frustrating but not surprising and just the nature of the beast this season. We just need to keep up the pace and win tonight ourselves to stay in with a chance. 33 points to play for and we will need most of them.
A goal and 2 assists last night, bringing him to...14 assists for the season (2 more than anyone else in the league). No idea how good he is defensively but who really cares when you can produce attacking threat like that!
Sidenote (and I will shut up in a minute), Sheffield Wednesday have just won their 4th game in a row!! Still in the relegation zone but only 2 points separate them in 23rd and Plymouth in 16th. They won 7 points from the first 18 games...and 31 from the next 18! Quite the turnaround from Danny Rohl! Their next opponents? Home to Leeds on Friday night.
Another (possibly) important factor is both Leeds and Ipswich have experience of this type of situation. Farke and players like Bamford, Cooper and Meslier (possibly others) have got promotion out of the Championship before. Ipswich were one of 3 sides who last year finished on over 100 points I think so most of their squad and management team know what it is like to need to win every week to keep the promotion chase alive We have Fraser and THB who have been promoted from this league before I think, so definitely not as much experience in the squad of chasing promotion. No idea if that makes any sort of difference mind you but in a season with very fine margins it could
