At different times over recent years I've seen it claimed that that bit of land is home to protected greater crested newts, common lizards (apparently also protected despite the name) and now sand lizards and a protected plant too. I'm not suggesting any of it is untrue, but it seems weird that the protected species keeps changing, and it seems odd to me that that site would have amphibians in the first place. How the hell do these things which you'd never think existed in Hull at all end up making a home just outside the city centre, nowhere near any water. I dunno, maybe it's more common than I think.
Because people keep giving out the wrong imformation, without mentioning names one of the mods on here repeatedly said great crested newts are on there and there not...it is sand lizards which also btw also occur in the Avenues area which is reasonably near by. On another note great crested newts live the majority of there life on land and can indeed travel up to half a mile away.
Originally, it was all training facilities and it included the whole Walton Street site, they've been scaled back.
Imagine pitches covered in hot dogs and crap whilst Hull Fair is in town... you know scrotes will be trying to access it..
Even with it just being the youth academy - I'm still not in favour of these plans. Investing in a separate youth centre away from the first team feels like a bit of a waste of an opportunity to me.
I've posted on this subject before, but don't mind repeating it. Newts, sand lizards, great crested newts are not as uncommon to this part of Hull as people might think. Newts return to habitat they were spawned, year on year. Across the railway track from the stadium site are the grounds of Hymers Collage with its long established lake and woodlands. Streams feeding this area, many of which are underground these days when years ago they were open drains start in the Wolds, some are still evident in the Cottingham area and newts etc are common place in these streams.
How much would safe standing increase capacity by, if as example they did it in the North Stand... or.. because I dont know, would the North Stand capacity be maintained as per the seating capacity..>
safe standing is a 1 to 1 of seating i believe so no increase but safe standing should absolutely be in the north stand
