Hopefully we will have some players back, we have a heck of a lot of 1st eleven and 1st choice subs out at the moment, that isn’t helping.
'the go to 2-3-5 all up front' That was City's tactics against Cardiff (when we looked most dangerous) for the last 10 minutes as it always was for GJ and Cotts bringing out all their clubs in the bag. Tins said we've employed a modern coach. Perhaps GJ and Cotts were ahead of their time.
Cotts was a bit stubborn and would never mix it.......in the end was his downfall........ LM is different.....but that could be seen as tinkering!!! Not easy is it?!!
Would be nice if the likes of RR would stop this negative vibe towards LM.......Nige has gone, he's not coming back.....we need to get behind LM and give him a chance.........
Nige was sha- on by the owners still it is their toy. probably our last season with sts this year-done our stint 25 years consecutive and going back to the Alan Dicks days. Not enjoying this new style of tippy tappy stuff-excitement has gone.
The style of football is awful watch, bad enough for me in my armchair but I feel genuinely sorry for those who spend time and hundreds of pounds every season. For all this I'm with Wiz and 1For.........we have to give LM this summer's signings and a dozen or so games next season.
Most people I speak to are gutted at the results but you seem to be enjoying them and want city to lose championship status so you can say “ told you Nige was the greatest manager ever” Plus you’ve said that countless times about renewing your season ticket. At least Wiz and Redprint stuck to their word you are just bumbling nonsense.
RP, do you subscribe to the RR view that the football was better under Nigel this season as well? Personally, I thought it was worse under NP this season, no identity to our play, and hump long balls second half. It isn’t working fully yet, but I can see the way that LM wants us to play, which is a start. Does it need improving, yes of course it does. I don’t think Nige knew how to play in this manner, it always felt like, let’s just get through this game with him. Doesn’t detract from doing some good work on the finances, but watching City has been hard since 2019 tbh.
I agree.....I actually like the football that we try to play, especially the touch and go stuff.......we seem to be good at it for the first 20 minutes or for spells but as soon as the opposition makes any sort of threat....it all goes tits..
Supcon The style was/is different. I'm an old fossil who doesn't enjoy watching playing across the back endlessly especially when involving the keeper. Unless it's Man City who have the necessary quality.......we definitely don't. Yes I fully understand the theory but I prefer making mistakes 50yards from goal not around the penalty area. How many times do we see, every week, goals given away across the entire football league. It'll be our turn next. I know I'm swimming against the tide but I can't stand watching Vyner and Dickie passing endlessly across the back, allowing the opposition time to get set, only to end up with Max finding touch. We might as well do that in the first place. NP's teams got the ball forward quicker and for me a more exciting and engaging watch. So, if you're asking me which style I prefer, then it's NP's. I'd rather forget personalities ie NP and LM, I prefer watching football played early and forward..........and can't understand p*ss balling around the box. Wtf is the sense in Dickie passing it 3yards to Max from a goal kick. Supcon, hope you're still awake.
I get the theory. Ashton Gate reality is different. My hope, perhaps forlorn, is City will sign the quality to 'create possession with time and space'.
Saturday O'leary stepped in to a passing pattern that released a CB into central midfield. O'leary had a simple pass to clip into McCorie, his pass was bouncing horribly and instantly put the McCrorie under pressure. The three centre backs versus the complex and narrow then wider and mutating formations couldn't find options, particularly wide options when the ball did arrive the grass had grown. Yes reality is different. Hope. Yes, Two signings and the picture can change significantly.
Forgive the rugby analogy but I miss the Barry John/Gareth Edwards approach in football. When Edwards first joined the Welsh squad he asked John who was already in it how he wanted the ball delivered when it came out of the scrum. John's reply - "you just chuck it and I'll catch it. A bit simplistic in this day and age maybe, but the theorists have taken something away from the game we love - so speaks another old fossil.
I take your point RP, but for me, too often the ‘quick way forward’ under Nige, was a long ball. Nothing wrong with that as an option if you have the players for it, we didn’t, all our forwards are 5’10 or smaller. Easy picking for the opposition who then attacked us.
