Good Morning. It's Monday 4th May, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

Bad day at the office for the Whites

It was a bad day at the office for the Whites at the weekend, with a well blow-par performance against relegation threatened Huddersfield Town.

Whether they were suffering from an FA Cup hangover from their midweek clash with Chelsea, or were simply not prepared for the ugly side of the beautiful game is up for debate, but Leeds did not look like a side challenging for automatic promotion.

Even if the game had been played at double speed, it would still have been slow. Time wasting and constant interruptions every few minutes interrupted Leeds rhythm, though the ten minutes of added on time would prove significent.

Like most non footballing sides, the hosts were most dangerous from set pieces, and true to form, duly took the lead from a free kick, speculatively fired into the box, early in first half stoppage time.

Veteran striker Danny Ward rose highest, with a bullet header which Meslier did remarkably well to keep out, but substitute defender Michel Herik was on hand to tap in the rebound.

Three minutes later, the hosts were reduced to 10 men, after Jonathan Hogg received his second yellow car, after elbowing Junior Firpo in the face. This should have proved significant, yet Leeds would go on to manage just one more (two in total) shot on target for the rest of the game.

Ten men Huddersfield continued to frustrate Leeds in the second half. Their 79% possession meant nothing in terms of points on the board, and it wasn't until Dan James and Connor Roberts came on, that Leeds looked like getting something from the game.

Their shot on target came on 67 minutes. The Welsh duo combined brilliantly, before Roberts picked out Bamford at the far post for his seventh of the season. Summerville was denied late on by the woodwork as Leeds searched in vein for the winner but it was not meant to be.

Will Leeds regret not signing Kieffer Moore

Kieffer Moore has given Ipswich Town the shot in the arm they needed at a time things were starting to unravel for the East Anglian club!

The 31yo arrived on loan at Portman Road on deadline day (1st February), and has made an instant impact. He has netted five times and provided an assist in his first six games, and has shot to the top of the Championship rankings with a 'Whoscored' average of 7.81, even higher than Summerville (7.77).

The 6ft 5' target man isn't just a headache from set pieces. His physicality and hold-up play (attributes most welcome in Championship) have ensured Ipswich a say in who finishes in the automatic promotion slots, come May.

Leeds looked at Moore but for whatever reason, a deal was not forthcoming. Will they regret not signing him when they had the chance?

How many more points do Leeds need?

There are still 33 points still to play for until the end of the season, and with only eight points separating the top four, anything can happen.

Leeds are in third place, two points behind Ipswich Town (on 75 pts). Everything could go down to the last game of the season where Ipswich host Huddersfield. Should the visitors have nothing to play for, the Terriers would like nothing more than seeing the Whites confined to the Championship for another season!

How many points do Leeds need to go up? Theoretically if they won all 11, they could finish on 106, which would equal Readings record breaking 2005/06 achievements, but how likely is it?

Morning all. Hope the two games this week aren't a repeat of Saturdays. We struggled early season against similar cloggers. Points needed? who knows but at rate Ipswich are going we can probably afford to drop no more than six points from here in. Crazy season. On a side note, Phil Foden, what a player

    Good morning everyone.
I am Still down after Saturday :(.
But hey ho onwards and upwards as they say, Two very important games coming up against sides which are struggling, as we all know these teams we ourselves struggle against and their tactics of playing dirty and breaking up play as much as possible, hopefully Farke should be aware of this by now and have a plan B, also the players, particularly Gnonto need to man up a bit, give as good as they get and most importantly get on with it, because their will be enough stoppages coming from the opposition.

If we only drop six points that would give us 100 for the season.

    Come on be realistic please.

It could well take that Jammy unless the Ipswich collapse happens that so many seem convinced will happen. And you're right 73 points is outstanding but Ipswichs 75 is more outstanding.

We've put ourselves in an excellent position with 11 games to go.

Let's all just enjoy the ride and not get too critical when the inevitable dropped points happen.

Should never have dropped points against that lot, Summerville missed two glaring chances I think he needs resting and freshening up.
Conner Roberts needs to start at RB and move Gray into where he is best, in MF.
Gnonto to start on the left and be told in no uncertain terms to stop whinging like a bitch and man up, James on the right and Joseph yes Joseph up front, he is definitely better than Piroe and can jump for headers something Bamford can’t do.
Over to you Mr Farke it’s time to freshen the team, plus opposing teams are aware of what team your fielding, time to change, oh and I hope them horrible cnuts at Leeds Rd get relegated.

You didn't see any criticism from Eire. I half expected Saturdays performance/result after the number of games close together that basically same team has played. Sort of sorry we got to fifth round of cup as it might have cost us two points

"Will Leeds regret not signing Kieffer Moore?"

We should have signed him to stop Ipswich from playing him.

TBH having a lump on the bench for when sides are parking the bus and you aren't breaking them down isn't the worst plan B.

Although I'd argue the Bamford goal in the 3rd round and Gnonto goal in the 4th round helped them find a bit of form/confidence/love from the crowd. You might say it's only small and would have happened anyway, but I'm sticking with it <ok>

Agreed he would have been perfect against Huddersfield on Saturday.

However we won the previous nine games in 2024 and we don't know if that would have been the case if Kieffer Moore had been playing.

Oh absolutely fella. Think we both saw this little run of fixtures as potential bananskins. It's football.

Doubt Kiefer would be a regular in this team but I'm a pragmatist not an idealist. For all it's important to have a default style of play, the capacity to mix it up when it's not working is nice to have. Whether Kiefer would like to sit on the bench all the time for the sake of 20 minutes every now and then againt a bunch of cloggers filling the six yard box? Different matter.

    Emu... have a view?

Think we know Emu's view but yeh bring it on <laugh>

For what it's worth don't think any of us would have had any issue if we'd signed Moore in January.

I do mate but looks like you have it covered.

I might be a bit more vocal if he fires Ipswich to automatic promotion.

Fair play to Ipswich for grabbing a great signing for them and just what they needed with their injury to Hirst.

Not sure what we could have done about that as we're not in a position to sign players just to stop them going elsewhere. Plus as said earlier we'd won every league game in 2024 before Saturday so it's not like we've done anything wrong either.
