I think that's the issue, for blokes receiving the 'attention' they brush it off. I believe for women it happens a lot where male bosses use their 'power' to influence their advances. I do believe there is a lot of inappropriate behaviour going on out there that should be stopped. I'm not saying 'office romances' should stop but using one's position to influence others isn't a good way of working. Going back in time certain things where more 'acceptable' but as time goes on we see the error of past behaviour and try and learn from it. No one should be in fear of harassment when going to work. I'm not saying Horner has or hasn't been inappropriate just that their are boundaries especially between management and staff.
Situations vary wildly. I know someone who was systematically sexually harassed at work by a very powerful boss, and she wasn't the only one subjected to it where she worked. A person in a position of power who considered themselves untouchable. Consent and willing particpation was irrelevent. In these situations there is a massive power imbalance being expoited. Saying it will go away if you don't encourage it is blaming the victim.
Yeah. Even if it's not being consciously exploited, it's a tough place to find yourself if you need to push back against advances from somebody who controls your ability to pay the bills. There may be more context we haven't seen, but i feel the "Stop" in those messages is about as firm as you can reasonably expect from someone in that position and it wasn't respected
yep, none of the girls ever wanted to be left alone in the micro fiche room with the head of accounts.
I confess I didn't read it all....reading further, which I didn't enjoy, does seem he got the brush off and ignored it. Somewhat ugly. Again, assuming this is real. Horner will have lost a great deal of respect with this leakage. Think Bernie was right to suggest he resigns to protect his reputation, which is now in doubt. Silly man. Not sure how he can sensibly represent the team going forward. Can't see Ford being happy with him staying in position.
It is mind blowing looking at that stuff (if genuine) that Horner was cleared. I'm fairly confident that had that been a peon acting that way towards another worker that HR would have stepped in and given the peon the boot. He probably should have saved face and walked.
I’ve not looked and I’m not going to, but generically in the modern world. If losing your job is an issue for you, don’t mix your personal and private life If you do, don’t do it where there could be seen to be a power imbalance between the two parties If you didn’t follow the advice so far and you’re in a position where other person wants to stop, you must stop instantly and be prepared to walk away from the relationship If you work for a company with a reputation to protect everything above is more important The more senior you are the more important everything above is If you’re a man, everything above is even more important If you don’t believe any of the above see point 1
Additionally, if your job and your employer's business includes being in countries with a deeply conservative culture (eg Bahrain, Saudi Arabia) then even moreso.
Quite obviously a power struggle here. Do we know what the forces are involved in this? You’ve got Horner Marko Dietrich’s son (49%) A Thai ownership group (51%) - BBC reporting there’s tensions between the ownership groups - but what is it about one siding with Marko and one with Horner? What are they siding over?
Don't know what's going on, but the majority owners wanting to stay with Horner, Red Bull, Jos (and Helmut?) wanting Horner gone from what I can gather. What their end game is, I don't know, but they want shut for some reason.
The personal ambitions of Horner and Marko i suspect. Both jockying for more power ever since Mateschitz died. Supposedly, the Thais trust Horner and the Austrians trust Marko. Another interesting titbit from the BBC article is that the FIA intervened to pressure Max to publicly defend Horner and he hasn't done so.
So if this is all motivated by a power struggle who do they want to replace Horner? I can't imagine anyone in their right mind would want Jos taking over!
I don't like Horner one bit, never have, and if the recent leak was genuine, he should probably walk. But you can't deny the job he has done at RBR. He has built quite a team there. But it seems that the Verstappen's see an opportunity here, which leaves Horner in quite a tough spot. It's not like he can bin Max, but I would totally banish his dad from the garage.
