Dodds Speakman and Proctor aren't at most successful teams, nor ever will be I'd confidently predict.
TBF they have been promoted and have significant positions. All without much substance at all. They shouldn't be taking such prominent roles on the front bench. All IMO of course.
Fwiw if KLD was to sell this summer he’d have done a huge service for this club and undoubtedly left us in a better place than he started.
Its a rumour without foundation though. Just a stick to beat Speakman with. Neil and Mowbray brought their own assistants, Beale talked about bringing someone in and Anthony Hayes wa brought in just after he left. And if the club are serious about Will Still, they will have to allow him to bring his own people in.
All of that is fair but i am absolutely sick of comments talking about how Speakman has too much power or that coaches shouldn't be kept over from previous coaching regimes when it happens at EVERY SINGLE CLUB. We are the only fanbase I have seen throughout my time in football that rejects the modern way of doing things and it's no wonder we are playing catchup.
My comment was somewhat tongue in cheek and yes I accept that when a coach is starting out if they want a job they have to swallow certain conditions they may not like. Only when they have a proven ability can they then set conditions. Then again I seem to remember a Coach at Real Madrid who was crying out for a CDM and the president bought Michael Owen, if I recall correctly the coach made a comment along the lines that perhaps he could play Owen at CDM
I will have to bow to your knowledge, to my limited knowledge every coach brings at least 1 trusted right hand man
I know for a fact Speakman is highly rated by some top clubs. And Dodds would get a good coaching gig if he left here.
I think the only thing that’s unhealthy is having essentially the assistant head coach being so close to the director of football. I wouldn’t mind Dodds in his old role of head of coaching, but that recent promotion placing him so much to the forefront of the first team coaching is counter productive for me. Speakman definitely doesn’t have too much power, he has the right amount of power for his role. Whether he’s qualified to be doing his role is my question. I don’t think he’s the right person for it. I think he’s better suited to academy football and should be at a EPL club managing their academy
He already has one here. But he shouldn't be the .mainan on the side. Reminds me of Robbie Stockdale.
Neil brought one, Mowbray brought one, Dodds has brought one in, Beale spoke about adding another coach. It's a myth that Beale wasn't allowed to bring one.
Beale said in his press conferences he was happy to work with the existing staff, we promoted dodds to assistant head coach at the same time as bringing in Beale. If I recall the press release said it was part of his progression. As I said my knowledge is limited, but I was suprised when Beale didn't bring in his own assistant from the off to help him get his ideas across and bounce things off
I was also surprised he didn't bring one but he spoke about adding one and the evidence of every other head coach being allowed to bring staff suggests Beale was able to but didn't. His assistant at QPR and Rangers is now assistant at Wealdstone so not sure that would've been a great hire.
I guess because Harvey doesn’t sign players, just identifies them. And he identifies them based on the parameters given to him by Speakman. (Just a guess)
Yep. And budget remit. Which has to be very low in wage outlay and initial fee outlay, with contracts having massive sell out costs for selling club.
Surely then KLD is the problem and not Speakman? The DoF and recruitment team can only work with money provided from the top.
Like I say mate, it's probably my limited knowledge of how football works. Personally I think limiting who a coach brings with him may well see us not get one like Still who is widely reported to want his own team around him
