I thought it at the time but we really should have put more thought into replacing Delap in the January window. If FFP was a problem then dont sign Sharp, Ohio or Pandur and bring in the best Delap type striker we can afford
Preston North End manager Ryan Lowe: "I thought we deserved a penalty. A decision has gone against us that has probably not seen us take all three points. Unfortunately for us it hasn't been given, but it's a penalty. "Will Keane has been pulled back, but maybe the referee is used to reffing in the Premier League. He's used to someone speaking in his ear, stop and then decide what to do. "I don't know, but the fact of the matter is that 11 decisions have gone against us this season and three for us. "It's become a little bit of a concern, because if it goes into 14-15, then it's costing us points." Hull City head coach Liam Rosenior told BBC Radio Humberside: "A hard-fought, physical, winter battle. I'm delighted with the players' attitude. "I felt if we'd have had a little bit more calmness in our play, which is hard to do when you come away from home against a team that play in a way that is really difficult to play against to get rhythm in the game, if we'd have taken advantage of the moments that we had in the opposition's half, then we could have come away with a win. "But the players have given me everything. I keep saying about us improving, I think that's a game we could have possibly lost earlier in the season. "I'm disappointed not to win the game, but I'm really pleased with the application of the players."
Yepp...I wouldn't disagree with any of that Ernie, other than to say replacing 'half the team' would be a tad optimistic. We'd probably need to sell Greaves and Phliogene for big bucks to fund a rebuilding, plus the likes of Morton, Carvalho, Omur, Delap etc...etc. won't be in the building next season.
Didn't learn anything new today. Good buildup, good defending, but our clear weakness is creating significant chances from promising positions. We don't know how to find space in the area and create chances. It's been a problem all season but particularly since losing Delap. If simply playing a striker was the answer then we'd do it. Ultimately the good elements of our play stacked against our weakness in the final third makes us roughly as good as our league position suggests.
I agree with most of this. Don’t think we’ll sign another keeper though. I do wonder if Pandur will get a chance this season or if we’ll wait until pre-season in the summer. As it stands, we will have zero first-team strikers come June 30. Delap and Ohio are loans, Connolly and Sharp are on one-year contracts and Óscar seems to have played his last game for us. I’d be inclined to let Docherty, Traoré, Christie, Connolly and Sharp leave on frees in the summer, sign a couple strikers, a winger, a right-back, Giles permanently and a defensive midfielder.
If we are going to give him his due Rosenior is a coach learning with barely any experience on the job We have an inexperienced team attacking wise Jaden is having his breakthrough season Like rosenior, he always had the potential but people need time Its not going to be right all the time I do think our lack of goal scoring will cost us promotion although theres always a chance Its a massively competitive game the championship And the relegated prem teams next season wont be at the level of the current auto teams In rosie we trust Hes learning as he goes
Really good performance and result needed against Brum. Scraping a one nil win is not good enough allowing for the talent we have in midfield/attack and on the bench to come on.
People always say that about the teams coming down, but truth be told they should still be stronger then anyone else and that's without the financial advantages they'll also have. If we don't go up this season it's a gigantic missed opportunity with how poor the league is bar the top 3/4. The goal scoring/clear cut chances has been an issues all season and it still hasn't been sorted. Yes you're correct about LR learning his trade and he is learning. But (and it's selfish but I want the best for us ) let him learn elsewhere and come to us further In his career. I've said it a few times previously, LR would be a fantastic manager for us in 7/10yrs time. Us in the PREM under ownership like we have now could be amazing, I want to see that asap
You say that but Automatics this season will be on 90+ points We went up auto.atically under bruce with 79 pts Ipswich have 75 with 11 games to go I think we are capable of getting the playoffs But theres no manager who would have us competing for automatics this season with our squad
Hence why I said it's poor bar the top 3/4 We have a very capable squad until we get to the important part....creating and converting clear cut chances
You say a massive missed opportunity if we don’t go up but then cite the top 3/4 as being above the standard. Only 3 go up so we’d have to beat one of those 3/4 in the playoffs anyway?
Anyone can beat anyone in a one off and we've shown we can beat and or draw against those teams. I maybe should have been more detailed and expanded on it and said it would be a massive missed opportunity if we missed out on the play offs with how poor / inconsistent etc the teams around us are. We have a fantastic squad bar the ( probably ) most important part which is creating and finishing clear cut chances. You could argue that we have to many #10s/attacking midfield players and that money/those places should have been spent/filled on someone who could score the goals to finish off all the good build up play we see. Because ATM that build up play is absolutely pointless. If that lack of player is down to LRs choice then he has to take responsibility for it. If it isn't and he wanted a goal scorer and didn't get one, then he needs to be strong enough to stand up to tan/acun and tell them it's what's ( potentially ) costing us a play off place and that he didn't need all the players they signed etc.... It's frustrating because we are so close to being a pretty ****ing formidable champ team, we just unfortunately lack the most important ( and difficult ) ingredient
