I have to say like, i think Hemir and Burstow are two of the most stationary frontmen I've seen for a good while, it's shocking to think they're both teenagers because they play like they're 35. That is the most important thing to address in the summer, a proper striker with a proven track record at this level, I feel like we've been saying this for two years now.
I'd put 09 left back and drop Hjelde. Apart from that, I'd love to see that or a 433 version with Adil in for styles, Neil as the dm, mundle, hemir and rusyn as the front 3
Absolutely, banging our head against a brick wall. The key part for me being someone that equally wants to come for the right reasons. Don’t want another Will Grigg situation
I was tempted, but I thought he had a good game today (apart from that tippy tappy bullshit for their goal)
Why has Ba suddenly dropped below both of them though then came on and beat his man with ease 3 or 4 times creating chances? Styles as the DM with Neil 8 and Aouchiche 10 is what I’d try. We’ve got nothing to lose. If we’re going start with 5 CM’s on the pitch at least have the balls to go full Pep and play 3 at the back with no wing backs and a midfield 6.
Every team in the Championship wants a striker. Unless the owner loosens the purse strings we are shopping in a different aisle to half the league
What a piece of business he was on reflection. One thing that struck me about Ross was how articulate he was in interviews, an obviously intelligent man, not the most athletic and he didn't have a great footballing pedigree (Albion Rovers etc) but he was able to outwit defenders and get himself in great positions, maybe when it comes to recruiting strikers that is something to be considered.
Let's be honest, Ba is minging over 90 mins. At best, he's an impact sub when we are on a high press. Seeing him trip over the ball 30 yards from his own goal is pure Sunderland (anti) gold
I think a lot of these young lads are getting thrown in due to injuries and are struggling a bit, which is understandable on one hand but still frustrating. Hjelde would probably be on the bench if Aji or Cirkin was available, Mundle the same if Roberts and Clarke was fit etc.
I might get some eyebrows raised here. That was a signing durected by the coqch. Guess who? Johnson. Fair play to KS and KLD for puttimg the dosh in, he was on his way to rangers or celtic, but johnson wamted him and the club backed it. Not saying we rip our our approach, but he is a counter weight to Dack in thqt argument.
I think the big miss right now is Huggins. His pace and ability to carry the ball up the pitch is a huge miss.
Better than every other winger bar Clarke though, that’s becoming more and more apparent now! **** knows why we’ve spent £2m on Mundle when you could’ve put O’nien on that wing and he would’ve ran at his man more today. Any better than Bennette?
I know some scouts at champ and prem level. I know a couple or agents at the top end. They all say the same thing and that is there are players that just stand out witbout deep analysis. It is the old achool eye tesr, a player who takes the breath away. I was told stewart was like that. A olayer miles above his level. Then his stats will back it up. I really hope there is a place going forward for players who pass the eye test, before any metrics are brought to bear. My expeteience isnt great. The last 5 years has seen a much harder time to get lads at u16 and abive in. I fould share sckuting reqyiremrnts and it would be eye opening. Rigg is the example, the eye test on him is so simple. Body shape, upper bidy movement, running style, head up, both feet. The lad is so coacuable. Sorry, bit pisseed, now but there are some bloody good footballera kicking about. Coaching a lad at the minute, at the rewuest of hia dad, who is 13 and in academy. Some 1-1 stuff on tight spqce, he is exceptional. I doubt any countey has as many stars of the future we have. Pleasure to see.
Appreciate your insight I find it fascinating. My uncle does a bit scouting and his eye for a player puzzled me at times, he told me Ross Stewart was a premier league player in waiting when we signed him, he also told me Chris Maguire was a waster, I thought he was talking rubbish at the time but he was proven right. I look at some of our players and think what on earth are we thinking about signing him but it’s obviously a lot more technical than being easy on the eye. I tend to give a player half a season before passing judgement but some of the lads we are giving game time to baffles me. I can see Rigg on limited game time is head and shoulders above Jobe, Ba & Styles so in your opinion what is our coaching staff seeing to keep putting them in front of Rigg ?
