The news gets even better... The Athletic are reporting that Saints plan to 'move heaven and Earth', in order to sign Downes permanently this summer, regardless of what league we are in. The club have obviously been given the green light from Downes himself otherwise why state this as their aim.
Thankfully I have never been near twitter or any of the other social media except for this message board. I can't necessarily claim it is that which has kept me sane but I am disappointed with the booing and some of the things I hear shouted at our players at St Mary's. There are some thoroughly unpleasant people around and some of them support* Saints. *I use the term loosely in this context.
Really pleased with the comments from RM, about the Smallbone hate fest on Twitter, especially the ones about how the fans should be having a go at RM himself because he is the reason why Smallbone has been playing in a position that isn’t his best. Yes Smallbone made the mistake that led to the second goal at Anfield but, iirc, Aribo was caught in possession for the third, but has been allowed to get away with that mistake without criticism, which is fair. All players make mistakes, fact, just as all fans make mistakes in their chosen careers. Get over it. Hopefully Downes will be fit enough to start today and get us off to a winning start through controlling the game.
Us fans make mistakes???? Well some maybe! Good interview and totally agree with RM ok, be critical of a player’s performance but not him as a person. That’s real low life stuff.
I think that Will is percieved as weak because of his alopecia and is a soft target for the morons but the truth is that he is a stronger person than they could ever be with what he has overcome in his young life.
People keep knocking Twitter/X etc., but in between the dross you can pick up some very good information, you just have to sort the wheat from the chaff and always keep an open mind and often have to wait for conformation from official sources.
