Here are some facts you won't get on GBeebies....

According the Crime Survey for England and Wales, someone is actually less likely to be a victim of crime in London than they are across the country as a whole.

When it comes to antisocial behaviour, the crime survey shows London has one of the lowest rates.

The murder rate in London has also dropped in recent years. Early figures suggest 110 murders were recorded by the Metropolitan police in 2023 – broadly in line with 2022. That’s down from a peak of 153 in 2019, and is also lower than the 120 recorded in 2015 – Boris Johnson’s last full year as mayor.

Contrary to some claims made by conservative political activists, there are far fewer murders in London (12 per 1 million people) compared with US cities. New York recorded more than 46 murders for every 1 million people in 2023, while Chicago had more than 220, and Philadelphia more than 250.

While London’s knife crime figures are relatively high compared with much of England, the capital is not the worst area when it comes to stabbings. NHS figures show that in Cleveland and the West Midlands police areas more hospital admissions for stab wounds were recorded than in London when compared to overall population sizes.

The latest statistics, for the year ending March 2023, show there were 12 firearm offences for every 100,000 residents in London. That puts it behind Gloucestershire, Merseyside, Greater Manchester, Northamptonshire, West Yorkshire, the West Midlands, South Yorkshire and Cleveland (which had the most gun crime for every 100,000 people: 33 offences).

In the past couple of decades, gun crime has fallen across England and Wales – and London has done particularly well on this front. Back in 2007-08, the capital recorded 44 firearms offences for every 100,000 people. That dropped to 24 in the first year of Sadiq Khan’s mayoralty, and has since fallen to 12 in the latest year of data.

Fact check: has Sadiq Khan really overseen a crime surge in London? | Crime | The Guardian

Why aren't you shouting about crime levels in the West Midlands?

I’d hypothesise the government ****ing the whole country off probably has more of an impact than the limited powers of the mayor. That’s my detailed analysis.

The Guardian is not impartial. It has a dog in the game, and it's easy to manipulate statistics. There are plenty of articles showing how bad crime is under Khan, and his attempts at cover up. Here's one

https://www.standard.co.uk/news/lon...atistics-regulation-knife-crime-b1124296.html

There's an article today in The Times about the epidemic of high value item muggings in London. The Guardian won't print that.

I don't defend Tory policy on crime. It's been woeful since Theresa May, which is part of the reason I won't be voting for them

What Is The Overall Crime Rate In London?
The UK’s capital city, and a hub for British tourism, commerce and culture, London is as synonymous with the winding banks of the Thames as it is with the fast-paced and often high-octane business world of Canary Wharf and Westminster.

It’s a huge melting pot of different ways of life, from the more tranquil surroundings of the city’s major parks, to the hustle and bustle of traditional markets that fill the air with a cacophony that harks back to London’s illustrious history. There’s no words to fully describe London, and with a staggering 30 million visitors each year, it clearly holds appeal for a range of different people.

Of course though, that popularity does create its own issues, and that’s most apparent in London’s worrying rate of crime. The city sees 114 crimes per 1000 residents, a 5.7% rise when compared to the previous year’s statistics.

The chief concern for residents and businesses in the city is the soaring rates of theft (274,715 offences) and violent crime (249,306 offences), both of which have seen rises when compared to the statistics we saw in previous years, alongside equally concerning numbers in vehicle crime (106,419 offences) and arson & criminal damage (56,586 offences)

Of course, this only tells a partial story, with London’s myriad of different districts and areas all seeing their own unique issues with criminal activity. Let’s break down the 15 most dangerous areas of London, and how their rate stacks up in comparison to the city as a whole.

I'd say the Guardian is rather less partial than GB News. Your claim that 'London has become a crime-ridden ****hole under Khan' is just plain wrong and the Crime Survey figures demonstrate that crime rates in London are no worse, and often better, than in the rest of the country.

The city sees 114 crimes per 1000 residents, a 5.7% rise when compared to the previous year’s statistics.

So the number has risen from 108 to 114 compared to the previous year. A small rise in one year, what about comparisons to other years and other areas of the country?

Again, by how much have these numbers 'soared' in comparison to other years and other parts of the country?

Talk about selective statistics!

This'd be the same Guardian that has just apologised and made a significant payment to GBNews presenter Dan Wootton!

GB News certainly isn't impartial but there is always a balance from The Left. I doubt there exists a wholly impartial news outlet.

Khan doesn't take the whole rap. He inherited the Met after all. But I've not seen him show any interest in the appalling crime in London. He's much happier inventing dumb names for tube lines.

Not sure why you'd raise the Dan Wootton story when discussing impartiality. The Guardian was one of a number of publications that published an article stating that Wootton was under police investigation, which he was. GB News exists only to be biased towards parties of the right and far right.

As I've shown, crime in London is no worse than the rest of the country. When you start ranting in a similar manner about crime in the West Midlands - which is worse - I'll believe that your obsession with Khan isn't just because he's a Labour mayor, or worse, a Muslim.

Oh, and the 'dumb' names are for Overground lines, not the tube. Anyone who knows London would know that.

The Guardian showed its bias by publishing false and defamatory statements about Wootton. Shameful

I don't believe The Guardian, or that West Midlands crime is worse than London. I've been critical of both the Tories and Khan on crime, so I don't see why you should accuse me of bias. "Muslim" doesn't bother me, unless the mayor is showing favouritism, or bringing in Islamic practices.

Overground or underground, I really don't give a ****. The names are still dumb, and Khan can do better than close his eyes to (particularly) violent crime. Even left wing news outlets have been critical of him.

The Tories wanted to flog the naming rights so I could have been sitting on the Samsung Line or the TikTok Line rather than the Mildmay Line on the way to QPR.

OK, so you don't believe the Guardian, or the Crime Survey for England and Wales.

Your own source re London crime statistics stated that there were 114 crimes per 1,000 residents, up from 108 in the previous (unspecified) year, remember?

Here are the stats for the Midlands from the same impeccable source (an insurance company with a vested interest in making people scared of crime) .....

Leicester 112 crimes per 1,000 residents
Nottingham 114 (the same as London)
Lincoln 119
Wolverhampton 119
Derby 122
Dudley 131
Grimsby 134 (not sure how Grimsby gets in there, but it's your source)
Birmingham 137
Walsall 143
West Bromwich 151

I used that article to show an increase in London crime. The problem in using those insurance figures to compare crime between cities, is the numbers don't distinguish between types of crime. A bike theft has the same weighting as a fatal stabbing. That's why you get a nonsensical result that Grimsby has worse crime than London. It could be shoplifting and twoc-ing

Under Khan's 8 years in office, 1000 plus Londoners have been murdered, with knife crime at record high levels. It's perhaps no coincidence that high on the news agenda last night were thugs on a moped in Clapham who shot 3 people with a shotgun. Khan is refusing to give the Met Police £70m to bolster its force, yet the weekly hate marches take officers from other protection they could be providing around the capital. Khan is happy to give the unions £30m for tube workers and spunk over £6m on a few woke names for railway lines. His priorities are wrong.

I can’t be arsed with the Khan is bad vs. Khan is great argument today but thought this was surprising. London compares reasonably well.

Yes, interesting. London had the worst homicide recorded in 22/23 apart from NE England. It must be bad up there, yet I've seen nothing in the press. Clearly, the London problem is Inner, not Greater

You chose the Churchill stats, not me. I gave you numbers from the ONS Crime Survey, which also showed London in a better light compared to other parts of the country.

Those stats show London had lower homicide rates than Cleveland, Gwent, Bedfordshire, Merseyside, West Mercia, Northumbria, Humberside, Durham, South Yorkshire. Northamptonshire and West Midlands.

You're being selective again.

Below states that London had the second worst homicide rate in the UK for 2022/23. However, when looking at Greater London, it is lower than many other police forces. I read this as Inner London putting the average up substantially higher to make London the second worst. Otherwise, how do you explain that first sentence?

"With a homicide rate of 12.7 per million people London had the second worst homicide rate among UK regions in 2022/23, with the North East of England having the highest rate of 15.9 in this year. On a more localized level, the Metropolitan Police of Greater London reported a lower homicide rate than many other police force areas that cover major cities such as Merseyside and West Midlands police. Across England and Wales as a whole, the number of homicides in 2022/23 was 602, compared with 697 in the previous year. "

Not sure how Greater London can be 'more localised' than 'London'?

We're addressing your obsession with Sadiq Khan, who is mayor of Greater London, so those are the statistics that are relevant. These show homicides in the Met Police area are at a lower rate than those in no fewer than eleven other police areas.

I'm done with this topic now. If your problem is with under-funding of the Met, I suggest you direct your ire towards the Home Secretary rather than the Mayor because 70% of Met funding comes from the Home Office.
