He didn't achieve anything with us, though. Maybe he's had his day, same with the likes of Steve Bruce, Alan Pardew, Mark Hughes etc...
Or maybe he wasn’t given time, or the tools, he did prevent us from being relegated, helped prevent us falling foul of FFP, whilst being instrumental in the building of our “nest egg” . Not too bad a legacy. Had he been allowed to use some of the nest egg, we would have known for sure if he was able to progress us further, as it is we can only speculate.
Scott Twine, Ayman Benarous, Kal Naismith: Bristol City injury latest ahead of Cardiff City Bristol City head coach Liam Manning revealed good, bad and encouraging news on the injury front before the Severnside Derby https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/bristol-city-injury-naismith-twine-9133489
I mentioned Pep because he's a modern day manager whom totally changed the face of English football.... Manning is trying to follow that modern way.......maybe given the players he would achieve his goal..........IMO Nige's tactics let him down...
Pep did all you said he did, but had a budget the size of the planet to achieve it, and access to the best players in the world, not to mention a massive amount of talent. There really is no comparison
He had to become what he is in the first place for clubs to believe in his principles.. Teams like Barcelona would never had given him the job in the first place if they didn’t believe he was capable… works both ways.. Nothing wrong with aspersions to becoming a top class coach.. LM is learning..
Anybody that has the funds Man City have had the manager cannot fail. You buy the best players on the planet and hope they gel.
Let’s clear up the Nige appointment in my years watching Bristol City we have never had a manager off his stature including the legend Alan Dicks. I was amazed when he was appointed. He clearly saw potential and wanted to build a team like he did at Leicester City and take Bristol City forward. Sadly the acorns were planted and we could see harmony between fans and club. Then bang it was kicked into touch by Mr L son. Now we are back to square one with a Lee Johnson appointment again. The merry go round of Bristol City FC.
He had 3 years to build a team and never finished above 15th, how long did you want to give him? LJ , apart from 1 season, never finished that low, and I don’t think LM will this season either! Also, Steve Coppell had a bigger stature than most of our managers.
You are completely ignoring the context. When he joined we were heading for relegation with debts up to our eyeballs. He left with us stabilised and ready to push on, our financial woes were behind us, and a “ nest egg” in the bank.
If he does it will be the first thing of any description he has done since signing. I'm not sure he's even a footballer.
