Yes Jeff it was a great night,I was 11 at the time and wanted to see the great Gordon Banks but we battered them
I was right behind Banks's goal as Les Allen chipped one over his head, hitting the bar and rebounding off Banks into the net. What a night!
I remember also going to see two games against them which haven't been mentioned . One in the Christmas period in 74 or possibly 75 when we won 4-2. I think because: Dave Thomas scored direct from a corner at the Loft end. Phil Parkes did score directly with a goal kick but for some weird reason it was disallowed. Leicester had a rookie goalie who ran out to intercept it misjudged it as the ball bounced, sailed over his head and he did not get back in time. Danny Westwood a prolific reserve team striker got a run out and scored from another monster kick by Phil Parkes where he got to the ball before the hapless rookie goalie and headed it past him. One game one goal and for some reason never got another chance as he looked quite tasty in that game. Went off to Gillingham where he banged them in for fun. The other one I believe was in '77 . It was my first game after I'd had a shunt inserted and my mum (always paranoid about my safety) wouldn't let me go without her there. We went behind, scored 3 in about 10 minutes in the second half and Leicester then scored a second. Turned out my mum was right because I became ill (starting with a splitting headache) and the St Johns ambulance had to take me to Hammersmith Hospital from where I was shipped back off to Maida Vale for further surgery to rectify a defect in the new shunt. Not a great time in my life. Still we won although the season was disappointing as it heralded the break up of what was the greatest team we ever had. Sexton left for Man U to be replaced by Frank Sibley. For those born later, he was the 70s version of Gareth Ainsworth who achieved through effort and fighting spirit rather than skill and total football.
Sorry @daverangers yet more John O’Neill Peter Eastoe Robbie James Tony Sealy Frank Large Hope this draws a line under it. I don’t have any OCD mates who support clubs other than Leicester, thankfully.
Leicester to Leamington Spa so one of the crosses you have to bear I suppose. For me it's Leeds and now Harrogate not York. Everyone here supports Leeds and I'm yet to find anyone who owns up to supporting Harrogate.
Well according to the guy that Clive interviewed for the preview we may as well not turn up tomorrow, give them the 3 points and move on to our next 2 home games............ He's irritated when people mention Parachute Payments and the vast value of their squad compared to other clubs....... serious lack of awareness..... https://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/footb...s-wobbling-or-waltzing-to-the-title-interview
Hmm, not at all typical of the Fox fans I know. They all hate the style of football, though some tolerate it because of the results. They all expect to be taken to pieces again in the PL next season like Burnley. The manager has moaned about the fans and threatened to walk away a couple of times, got an ‘I’m bigger than the club’ attitude. I thought it was one of Ainsworth’s better games when we lost to them at home, though he was sacked straight after. I think we can get something from this game, even though their players wages are four times higher than ours. I hope we do, I’ll be drinking with Foxes before and after the game. They were very gracious after the game at HQs and I’d like the opportunity to return the compliment. Or just march around the pub triumphantly.
We seem to have difficulties beating the teams at the bottom of the table, so perhaps we will perform against the big boys? Let’s hope for a good performance!
