That's why Man Utd went down the ****ter after Matt Busby left. He kept hanging round and telling the players that he would do X instead of Y, which the ACTUAL manager was doing. As much as it hurt Bill Shankly, it was a good decision for Paisley to tell him he wasn't allowed to come to training anymore when he'd retired.
i think i've come across wrong. I don't think SAF will touch training or talk to players at all in that way. He knows all to well that too many cooks spoil the broth. I mean he will be there to give advice to the manager or be there if the manager asks for it. He'll be perfectly willing to give his opinion when asked. I just mean that he won't fade into the background and simply get a shot on camera at old trafford every once in a while. I think whoever the new manager is would happily take it as well, seen as though he's probably the hardest manager to replace in football at the moment.
Honestly mate I doubt he will. I don't think he'll be someone like Shankly or Busby who retires and then hangs around missing the club and regretting his decision. He might have done that if he'd retired as he planned back in 01/02, but he's almost in his seventies now and has shown he won't retire until he's completely ready. I reckon he'll only retire when he's absolutely through with the game and will then retire to his horses and wine. I also reckon he wouldn't be happy with any sort of consultant or advisory role - he's shown throughout his career that he either wants full control or he wants out.
Thats what i hope happens, and i hope he'll be happy and feel... fulfilled and finished (terribly phrased, leave me alone) but i just feel that he may not be able to resist if he sees us take a bit of a slide. And hell, if he hangs on for a bit more and it turns out to be solskjaer ( please god, let it be so) i reckon ole might be ringing him up every now and then I just want him to go out on top and mould one last great team before he leaves :'(
Tbh, I'd hope if we take a bit of a slide it would be the current manager ringing him up, rather than SAF offering unrequested advice. That could leave the new guy in an impossible position, like O'Farrell claimed to be in. And I reckon he can mould at least two more great teams before he finally calls it a day
He might just last long enough to see the demise of this present crew but as for 2 re-builds - NO CHANCE
