I think we should be wondering why the manager can't or won't get all our new signings in the team 'EVER' This notion Howe is right about everything? So he's basically decided players we bought for big money are less capable than the likes of Burn , Longstaff and Murphy? There's always a portion of ****e before and after substitutions, so we are never playing a best 11 availabile at any point whatsoever. He clearly preprescribes substitutions and doesn't make any changes based on what's taking place in the game unless it's injuries.
I think the question needs to be what has gone wrong between last season and this? We competed better with the squad last season. Injuries, yes, fixture list, possibly but where has the press gone, what's happened to the energy, are they knackered or just don't care? why has there been such a drop off in the last few months? In fairness to Howe he's actually doing better second half of the season than he did in the first half on the results so far but it looks shambolic across the board in comparison to last seasons performances..
It's also the amount of back passing we are currently doing which is becoming more and more. Lack of urgency on getting the ball out wide and I'm starting to get sick to death of the full backs sitting way too narrow as well as both full backs getting caught with the ball in attacking areas more and more.
That's certainly the ultimate question and I'm not seeing things gets better despite the issues being glaringly obvious. I've sighted my reasons and it was Howes unexperience and style of play that landed the squad in physical difficulties in the first place and he basically just does nothing and much like Southgate who's worryingly close to Staveley he refuses to make changes when people challenge him on them...it's like these guys are either blind or just trying to prove points.
Agree... has he tried to change the style because he is aware like I've been saying his style isn't suitable moving forward?
Bottom line is it doesn't really look like he knows what he's doing. All I know is every line-up will be 4-3-3 and he'll just try weird things within that. The back passing, I don't get it, because the movement is utterly static so we have no ability to switch play rapidly or ping it about. The full backs I don't understand, we had Trippier moving into midfield then the back four becoming a back three, but then no cover at right back. It's just shapeless, pointless, arrogance - as in he will persevere with this 4-3-3 until it kills him. Striker, always isolated, has been all season. Barnes, wrong purchase - as Tasty rightly pointed out he's a 4-2-3-1 player, always has been, needs a decent full back and a 10 to work. Hall, pointless and mind-boggling as to why he's still turning up on the bench, might as well bring Gillespie back. Tonali was the same player as Bruno, was out of position when he got banned. Livramento is the only success but he's not allowed to play his position because Trippier is un-droppable. Longstaff, Murphy, Burn, Almiron. Schar all crap, all playing every week. 5-3-2/3-5-2 Schar, Lascelles, Botman Livramento Miley Bruno Willock Hall Gordon Isak.
Maybe while the injuries are piled up he's thought to try and save the players legs but if we are playing low block we should be thinking about a back 3/5 imho, the gaps between the lines are enourmous at present and Blackburn were dragging players out and popping it into the spaces yesterday. -----------------Dubravka -----------Schar, Burn, Botman Trippier, Longstaff, Bruno, Livarmento --------------Gordon, Willock -------------------Isak Schar and Botman WCB as they can carry the ball, BDB in the middle to get his head on everything, Gordon and Willock supporting the WB's and running the channels in attack.
Indeed! I'd take Burn out, he's ****ing useless. Lascelles is better in the air, Botman better LCB. And obviously Hall's not playing, but I'd even consider Almiron as LWB. I mean, there's a few things that could be done that we're not doing - I understand formation pr0n is pointless and the manager/coach see far more, but I think all anyone is asking for is some kind of evolution, some kind of change that improves the play/results. Could you have three at the back, with Schar given license to push into midfield (like City do with Akanji/Stones)? Could you use wing backs with energy to ensure we have bodies in the middle? Could you try two up top, one off the other, to stop the striker being so isolated? It's hard to see what we're achieving from the two inside forwards. Could you go to a double pivot with Bruno/Schar/Miley, to allow Gordon or Almiron to operate as a 10? Could Alex Murphy get a look-in? Could Hall not be given a little run at left back? Is Targett worth a return? Could Anderson be deployed as a 10 with Gordon and Almiron either side? Or should we just play 4-3-3, with slow players, subbing like for like on the 60th minute and instead of pressing lets slow it down so we become even easier to play againt? Yeah, let's do that one.
Errrrrm... does someone want to tell him? TBF I thought Lascelles was very good up to the point he missed his, unopposed, header that led to their goal. Agree for the most part and I did say yesterday maybe 3-5-2 also but just think we are struggling with the opp. playing through the lines - so need more lines (say it like Cocaine bear) please log in to view this image The reason I like the 2 CAM system is one can push on and support (Gordon) the other can find the pockets of space (Willock) and out of possession they can cover the FB's.
By "better in the air", meant from corners, as in that's a reason why Howe claims Burn is so fundamental to our "tactics". In reality, both are **** and should be in the Championship. We've managed to make a Brighton utility sub our first choice LB, under PIF ownership (added that as this kind of rubbish was Ashleys stock-in-trade).
Offers nothing. Burn is like having 10 men on the pitch. The amount of times last night a proper left back would have been helping Gordon out making runs to take away defenders but Burn just stays back and does the same pass over and over again. Can’t cross, can’t play long balls, has no pace, can’t head very well considering his height, can’t take players on, he’s literally the prime example of a safe player.
It’s becoming boring now how stubborn Eddie is been. Pep mixes things up and evolves, as does Klopp, as does Simeone.. this is the difference between decent and being at the very top of football management.
Both our fullbacks are too slow. Burn is 8ft 4, Trippier is older than @magpie290761 We don't have any extremely expensive fullbacks on our ... Oh wait, yeah
lol Trips is about the same size as me too ( height wise). Tough one really, I like Trips but also like Tino.
Its psychology, Trippier Burn Longstaff, these are lads who got us out of the bottom three. We had a trench mentality, a dig deep and play for the shirt style. Howe and these lads have a bond, then the top 4 season, they've now experienced hardship and success together For some managers, you have that ability to say "okay chuck, it's time we move on" Klopp is especially top draw at this, but Howe struggles with it, obviously. He struggles to make it obvious you're done, there's a new lad taking your place. He'll never change that btw
