I'm not going to re-write history and say I always thought he was ****e - I didn't. I was excited when he was mentioned as a replacement for Fab at @£50m. He would have been ideal. But that was a year ago, and then firstly Arsenal's interest bumped his price up to around £65m iirc, then when Chelsea were talking about having him pre-agreed (with the player anyway) at £80m I thought that was that - if we wouldn't pay over £80m for Bellingham, then surely we wouldn't pay more for Caicedo? Indeed, he's not half as good as Tchoumanai, and although he would always go to Madrid instead of us if the money was equal, we'd have never gone to £100m for him either. I was staggered that Friday morning when I got up and found out we'd bid £110m - I said so at the time, even before he rejected us (thank God), as did 2/3rds of our board iirc. I still think he WAS a decent no6, but paying two or even three times his worth was insane, especially, it has to be said again, when we pulled out of the running for Bellingham at £80m. I get that Jude (like Tchumanai) would have gone to Madrid anyway, but events have shown that Caicedo is just one of those players who will struggle to justify his price tag. He's better than he is performing at the moment, but not by enough to ever live up to that albatross around his neck. But **** me, Brighton - what a boss, well-run club - I'd like to think we were in on it in cahoots with their chairman to boost the price, and we indeed pushed them £35m over the price they thought Brighton were going to have to sell at if there were no other bidders. In fairness though, that was just the caniness of their chairman. I salute them.
I'm staggered anybody can get a new account up-and-running nowadays. Had to go through Facebook to get back on here four years ago, and that took 6 months of trying.
I'd not mind but I didn't even bother reporting him, just baited to see if he'd react the way I expected. really poor effort.
I like to think we had a chat and said look we’ll bump up the price for caicedo by bidding and forcing Chelsea’s hand, if you let us crack on with max allister at a reasonable price? Doesn’t matter to them if it’s 80m for each of 110m for one and 50 for the other. Can’t see that being the case but would be funny if it was. Especially as I’m sure Brighton have a much better relationship with us than chelsea who have pinched another one of their scouting team a week ago
Brighton are looking at expanding their stadium and decided rather than get a bank loan to get the Chavs to pay for it
I'm sure macca negotiated it when he signed his new deal to give Brighton the money assurances and everyone knew it.
times are tough. we've had to recycle the 9 and will put that on the fa cup later on. not sure how we will afford the 2, the 0 and the 4 for the others and what we will do with a useless 1, 9 and 8 now.
a random bit of history has surfaced. jayden danns is the second lfc player to play his second game for the club in a cup final. the first? apparently Ian rush in the league cup final in 1981. if he scores half as many as Ian rush in his career the lad will have done epically well.
probably should. before fsg lost interest a few years back due to the doping they won the wsl. they should get one up ther.
