Too many member feuds making us gooners on here look like total ****s. My views: 1) Mods should feel free to take the piss out of who they want, but shouldn't allow this to interfere with their moderation duties. E.g. "Jayskie the mod" shouldn't lock "Pikram's" thread just because he thinks that Ramsey is better than Arteta and Pikram doesn't. 2) Taking the piss is the whole point of this board. Nothing wrong with a bit of banter, just stop getting so offended. 3) General rule in life: If you say something that the 99% disagree with, the 99% will start to disagree with YOU. Guys, just calm down.
Jayskie the mod hasn't locked any threads of Piskrams And I agree, the mods are fans first and mods second - we actually don't have to moderate very much on here at all and that's a credit to our board.
This ' fans first, mods second ' approach is fraught with inconsistencies since it runs the risk of mods swapping hats as they please. How can a mod who sees his role as being ' fan first and mod second ' ever be seen to be an honest broker if that is the basis on which moderation is applied? In any other forum mods are ' mods first and fans second '. I appreciate that not606 was set up fairly hurriedly so perhaps in time the forum will evolve.
I think you'll find that not606 has been around quite a while,it is just that some people where not aware of it's existence.
Exactly - it's a storm in a teacup. We all agree that we want robust debate and people not getting upset if someone doesn't agree with them. We all seem to agree that we want to be able to do that woo, without being accused of attacking other posters (we are all adults and can deal with it I'd) hope) We also agree that we don't want mindless wumming and name calling tit for tat spats. There is actually very little to moderate on here other than the obvious stuff, I've never had to delete a thread or even one single comment from an Arsenal fan. If people have problems we ask them to PM us, so as to keep it from ruining the threads. Ultimately the moderation is a side issue, we are all fans first and I don't see any conflict with the two roles. If I have to, or are asked to moderate something, then I'm in moderator mode and I'll do it as fairly as possible, involving the posters concerned. None of us should be scared to express our opinions on here, even the moderators
so all the abuse I threw at you was mild was it ? memo to self - look up some really obscene words for PISKIE...
you ****ING WHAT ILL GIVE YOU ****ING REASONABLE IN A MINUTE YOU FAT SON OF A MOTHERFUCKING BITCH FART ***GOT TITWANKING COCK <3
Well that's the point isn't it? We want to be able to express our views, without feeling restricted, but also respecting thefact that clear abuse is unacceptable. I think the balance is about right on this board
I disagree. If I'm moderating, then I'm in moderator mode and I won't post on that thread unless it's a gentle nod to ask people to knock it off. But as I said, this is probably 1% of the time I'm on here. The 99% of my time here is the same as everyone else - as a fan. The two roles don't really conflict with each other.
Board is undermoderated, IMO. I think the effort to go away from the original 606's overmoderation has gone too far the other way.
I agree with this - to an extent. The thing about BBC606 that we all hated was that you couldn't express yourself freely. The mantra of this site is 'freely', so I think we need to respect that - with the obvious responsibility that comes with it. Nobody wants an all out slanging match, but we should also be allowed to say what we want without fear of reprise or censorship. As I've said, I think we've got the balance about right on this board
