Maddest thing about that game - the only surviving player for Chelsea from their last cup final, which was only 2 years go ffs, was Trevor Chalobah. That's mental. No wonder there's absolutely no cohesion in that squad at all. I fear for Poch, he looks a shadow of the man, with a shadow of the energy, of the guy that managed us and Spurs. Most maddening thing about that game, is the whole "Jurgen's farewell quadruple tour" bollocks continues into Wednesday. Hugely impressive from VVD though. That was sheer will.
I was saddened to hear of the pasing of Stan Bowles. It seems incredible to think that in the mid 1970s were probably the second best team in England after Liverpool for a while. My cousins supported QPR and i always had a soft spot for that team with the likes of Bowles, gerry Francis, Dave Clement. Phil Parkes, etc.It was a brilliant team but also one which captured my youthful imagination with their attacking style of football and a distinctive kit. Bowles was a maverick in an age of flair players who had the trickery of their modern day counterparts whilst somehow seeming alien from the way football is played today. There was a generation of players in the 1970s and 1980s who had the ability to create magic and who had a mystique about them.In my opinion, the likes of Wenger eventually squeezed these traits out of the English game and it could be argued that football became more professional, organised and scientific afterwards even though the England managers throughout this time were reluctant to cap these kinds of individuals at the time. Bowles did not get the number of caps he deserved and maybe his style ran counter to what the FA wanted in those days. I suspect Stan Bowles will go down as the kind of player more fondly remembered by the spectators. With the sa passing of Chris Nicholls. , I have been wondering how the players I grew up watching would fit into today's Premier League teams and vice versa. Watching the clips of Stan Bowles makes it seem like another sport altogether.
Evening. Should be a good game midweek, we have injury problems but no excuses. Hope to see you back next season regardless of the result.
“Klopps Kids beat Chelsea billion pound bottle jobs” is what they’ve gone for. Prefer Kuadruple my self but there you go
Worst part is the commentators pretending like a Liverpool are some rags to riches club. Chelsea’s average age was around the same as Liverpools When we had our whole team out injured or with covid the commentators didn’t even mention it. I honestly don’t think I can watch on Wednesday, the constant dick sucking of Klopp is too much
Terrible from Chelsea and Poch yesterday. Think as time going on then Poch is proving himself to be in that second tier of managers rather than the truly top level.
Even when he was at Saints he was often criticised for having no Plan B. The game progresses every few years tactically, and some managers just get left behind if they're unable to adapt.
