I thought a draw was very fair, but possibly not good enough for us given our run of difficult games. We could have won it, they could have won it. V annoyed by Morton's sloppy mistake which led to their goal. It seemed horribly casual, and personally I don't think after Slater's display at Southampton he deserved to be dropped to the bench.
We've obviously improved lately, certainly in terms of results. But I think we still have the same limitations we've had all season. Conceding goals from set pieces at crucial times, and labouring to create enough clear cut chances from the positions we get into. I wish we could either get better at converting crosses or stop crossing it. Often our good moves end in us creating the space for someone to cross, the cross gets easily cleared as it always does, and then it's a toss up whether it falls for us to continue the attack or for them to get the ball. A lot of people wouldn't like it but I'd rather see us continue moving the ball and probe for a better opening than us slinging crosses in with a 0% success rate.
Agree 100% - there was a particularly frustrating point in the second half where Zaroury crossed when Carvalho was in a similar position and free from where he scored in the first half. I don't think that was the only time. I think Carvalho is starting to show that he is our key to play offs so we need to feed him the ball as much as poss. Given we're a small team, crosses have to be inch perfect and played with pace for them to work - eg Omur's for Greaves a couple of games ago.
Fair result overall. Kept the ball well enough without really opening them up. Would have taken a point before kick off especially after coming off three consecutive away wins but our problem of playing at home is holding our progress up a tad and frustrating to say the least. UTT.
Two stick or twist teams today... just how much has Greaves improved even in the last half a dozen games. Thankfully, the likes of Philo who has not had a minute off from coming back form an injury will get a full week off... didnt understand taking Zaroury off, didnt understand Connolly coming on and didn't understand why Tufan wasn't used earlier... But, a point is a point... As I type this I see Millwall are winning at Southampton...
I didnt see the point of crossing at all today. Most of their players looked a clear foot taller than ours. Our attacking players were never going to win a header in their box.
At some point soon we're going to need to go 'all out' in front of packed home stadiums.3 points are HUGE at this stage of the season. We've amassed a glut of attacking, skilful players. To me,now is the time to take the shackles off and let this skill shine through?
I don’t disagree but at the same time - West Brom were supremely organised today and hit the bar and the post twice. Thanks to the Southampton win, 3 points today wasn’t as essential as it could have been, so keeping tight to West Brom and keeping a distance-ish over 7th was important. Especially considering we’ve played 3 in a week. The games against Preston and Coventry will be bigger games to win.
I think we rely too much on being pressed at times to see that increase in tempo. WBA were happy to let us have the ball first half and we didn’t create at all. We scored at a great time, which meant WBA pressed higher meaning we played through a number of times. This also led to the mistake Morton made however, but too often we resorted to nothing long balls. But on the whole a good point, a shame in the manner we conceded as I think if we made it to the half we’d have gone on to win comfortably.
Said it before and I'll say it again, for whatever reason this team are so much better away from home...
Same old frustrations that will ultimately harm us if we don't sort it. Conceding silly soft, daft, goals and not creating&converting enough clear cut chances to win games. It just has to chance because everything in between those is going well.
Unless, he was being given a bit of a rest, he did take a bit of a heavy knock late on in the last game.
