Looking forward to the away match against Bristol on Sat. Just arranging travel and wondered if your going how are you getting there ? Train return is £28 pp but i remember seeing on a previous post that there is a fans coach thats around £17.50 ?

Cant decide whether to drive, take the 11am train or maybe the " Bus " if available .

How are the red army marching ?

Living in South West London, getting the train from Paddington to Temple Meads. £16 return with a rail card, not bad although I did book that months ago.

Should have booked your train in advance can get a return for about £15 depending what time you travel.

Bristol Temple Meads is quite a way from Ashton Gate as well so you'll have to get a bus from the City Centre to nearer the ground

Anyone driving up the A36/A4 route should avoid the centre of Bath like the plague, as the Christmas market opens tomorrow, and it will be a nightmare.

Instead, turn off the A36 at a village called Woolverton on to the B3110, and go through Norton St. Philip, Hinton Charterhouse, and Midford and enter Bath on Midford Road. You'll come to a roundabout where you turn left, then another where you go straight across past a Harvester pub called the Red Lion, then follow the road for a couple of miles and you'll come out at a roundabout by a pub called the Globe where you join the A4 for Bristol.

    Enjoy the game!

Me and my friend are getting an early train up. He's a guard on South West Trains and I think he said there is work on the lines around Southampton so that might coz problems, let me just check my messages....

    ...mum: pick up some milk....

...dirty picture messages from Ashley Cole and Wojciech Szczesny...

...NOTW: Sorry for hacking your phone, it seemed like a good idea at the time...

Here we go: Nothing about the rail works, but there is a station 10 mins from the ground, 1 bus an hour from central Bristol or a 6 quid taxi (otherwise its a 45 min walk). I'd recommend going via Bristol Temple Meads, loads of pubs and things in the centre and regular trains home. Also, for all you rail enthusiasts, the Bristol line has some cracking scenery :)

the Southampton to Temple Meads service is dreadful. Only 2 coaches, clattery train s and loads of stops.

Chilco, I'm surprised you never mentioned a little gem along the way at Faulkland- The Tuckers Grave. Fantastic little parlour pub. If you like your real ale, it's well worth the visit. <cheers>

Yes, I know it well! Legendary pub around the Somerset area, and as you say, if you like your beer straight from the barrel it's hard to beat. Led Zeppelin played in the skittle alley once on their way back from a gig! A couple of miles off the route I suggested but well worth the detour (turn left at Norton St. Philip). Mind you, that route is crammed with fab pubs, if you don't watch out you'll never get to Bristol!

Bristol City away is one we were looking forward to last year as we hadn't played them for years, so a visit to the Grave was well overdue!

Have you ever frequented the Peyton Arms at Stoke Lyne at the bottom of the A43 where it meets the M40? The landlord 'Mick the Hat' is as mad as a box of Frogs but another little gem if you like 'Old Hookey'. We've been calling in there for years on the way back from anywhere from Wolves to Derby. He's a closet Pompey fan by now but I'm sure he'd serve you if you left your deckchairs in the car!<laugh>

The George Inn at Norton St. Philip is a lovely pub if you fancy a pint on the way.

Oldest continously licensed pub in England, I believe.

£4.95 return on the bus. A pint in the Albion (in Portishead) before and a couple of celebratory ones afterwards. Job done!
