It's a complicated issue and a good debate this, but on that specific point, surely the benefit is that it would allow underprivileged inner city kids to get there, which some simply wouldn't be able to if it's out of town. Not saying I don't agree that on the whole out of town might be better, like I said it's a complicated issue overall
That should give us an advantage over other clubs given that Acun can be halfway to the Dominican Republic in 90 minutes.
Inner city underprivileged kids who are good enough, will have their transport needs looked after if it's needed
The discussion is now real and I can't wait to see the plans for both the stadium and future training ground location. Past discussions have been completely intransigent from both previous owners and previous councils so when any murmur of stalling progress comes up there is an outcry against HCC and Hull Fair, it looks like this is being worked around and the club arn't trying to squeeze too much onto a small, messy and inappropriate footprint, looking forward to it all being revealed.
I still think land between Ferriby and Hessle should be considered, straight off the A63, next to the train line so a match day station could be put in, close enough to the existing park and ride. Would be one hell of an investment though...
When the current stadium was built, a rail station was looked at but the cost was, apparently, extremely prohibitive.
Because it's the best place for it, that's the reason pretty much every club has their training facility out in the sticks, the only notable exception being Man City (who demolished everything around the stadium to create an 80 acre site to build on - The fair site is 16 acres, it's tiny compared to normal training facility sites).
How many clubs have their training ground and/or Academy around the actual stadium? I can't think of many.
Is that definitely right? I know several parents with promising youngsters (aged 10-13) at Leeds United. All of them have to take their kids, at their own time and expense (from Hull and ER), to Leeds three times a week.
Always get this underprivileged and poor stuff in Hull. Presumably all the other clubs with out of town academies and training grounds, Norwich’s is about 9 miles, Middlesbrough’s is 18 miles away, only have privileged kids from well off families there? Incidentally, both of theirs are Category 1.
I think building a station falls upon Network Rail. If the club had said, OK we will pay for it, then I can imagine it being prohibitive.
I think the council were quoted £6 million for just a platform being put there. Correctly, in my view, they decided against.
One of my eldest's friends has just moved to a house near Manchester because their brother has just signed a scholarship with Man City, apparently it was subsidised by the club (don't know by how much, or whether it's purchased or rented...)
There are quite a few from Brid at Leeds. A few years ago you couldn’t go that far. Living near me there are 3, one whose dad is Leeds fan, one a City fan and one a Sheff Utd fan. I asked the City fan and the Blunts one why their kids were at the detestable leeds and they said, simple, Leeds came our clubs didn’t. They have a Leeds fan involved with junior football keeping them informed. Seems City are not as interested.
