Its probably just my perspective. They are buying 10 players for 20mil a piece over now 5 year contracts (and tried 8) and then sell a homegrown layer who really should be the core of their side for pure profit to balance it. in effect they shovel out 200mil on players that might be absolutely useless then have a 40mil per year FFP burden so each year just need to sell one local player for 40mil and FFP WAS satisfied. For me thats not the spirit of the law and what UEFA are going to try the revenue model with the 70% and why clubs are busy faking revenue left right and centre to show they are awesome. If you think about it, If you have a team with 5 great local players and buy 6 really good players you would struggle to meet FFP but you've probably done a better job at building a sustainable club.
I don't know why the refs keep buying it. They must watch games themselves at home and see the same players falling all over the place. Once again we had the most possession and most fouls. It just doesn't add up. We won and everyone got back to the dressing room in one piece so I will take that.
Now that FFP actually has consequences I have no problem with what Chelsea do. Apparently they will have to sell probably conor gallagher by 30 june to avoid an FFP breach next season. Either way I much prefer the way we do things.
that has nothing to do with academy produced young players being sold for profit when there is no route into the first team you are conflating 2 different scenarios .
The team that finished the game contained the youngest 7 players on the pitch at the same time in our entire history. We've got a really good set of young players coming through all at once. The age balance is almost, if not, perfection. I don't know how much time Thiago, for example, spends with the team but the influence from the older, experienced players will be invaluable in bringing on the youngsters.
maybe so but I am anti what Chelsea are doing to "balance" thier books/madness thats what I am saying. The prime motivation is to have first team players, selling players who don't quite make it is a bonus. If we had 10 harry Wilsons who move on and have great careers or conor coadys or whatever then great if they can't make it here. It'd be great sure. We shouldn't be thinking its a cash cow that my point. We are not ajax and don't want to be as ajax model is to move players onwards and upwards while having CL money to dominate dutch league. We want to be the end destination as much as humanly possible so having this amount of kids is outrageous. Its great.
The thing is that, now that FFP actually has teeth, clubs are generally a lot more careful about who they're buying, because a wrong move can seriously set you back in terms of toeing the FFP line. Chelsea got away with it last year with Arsenal and Man utd's big money moves for their players, but I can't see them getting what they're asking for with Gallagher and especially Broja. The only clubs that can - FFP budget wise- afford what they're asking are clubs that would probably be looking at better alternatives.
they've sold the easy parts. they have not held a lot of players very long so the amount of amortisation is low on a lot of what might attract a big bid. gallagejr with no disrespect is not a fashionable player so nobody is going to give them a lot of money... except newcastle. broja is a massive gamble as he's a big lump and need a couple of fit seasons in the championship together back up to where he needs to be but they want 50mil now now now. No sensible lower end prem club will spend thst much on him. so who else is there to move on and who will buy? chilwell? James?
Broja went out on loan as thats the best offer they could get James is a busted flush Chilwell is getting on and while available more often than James still has a poor injury record . Madueke and Maatsen may be in demand but not at big prices .
when were those two signed? their key is to have amortised a lot or sell at a big profit. there's nobody there that falls into the second category
Does it? No big club or big offender has actually received a punishment yet. Bigger clubs still appear able to get away with it. City seem to be able to kick the can down the road indefinitely
it's temporarily paused some clubs antics. thats all. right now Everyone is waiting to see what Everton get. if tjry are reduced to 4 points or a fine then that will be that. all the big clubs have mysteriously increasing revenues which is looking towards the 70% of revenue limit.
the city one is a far more difficult case to prove due to its nature and provenance where as Everton is simple as their accounts prove they breached the rules despite all of the PL attempts to help them out .
Why are we all saying FFP has teeth because they've twatted little Everton and are about to slap Forest? When they actually DO anything about City and Chelsea (and the UEFA precedent doesn't fill me with optimism) I remain unconvinced that this is anything other than putting on a show for the papers.
I get your point about the punishments, but my point is that Everton's punishment has affected the way most clubs operate in the transfer market. The days where clubs from midtable downwards would splash out millions on the big clubs' unsuccessful kids appear to be gone.
I’m not talking about chelsea signing bunch of 20 year olds recently and then selling Gallagher to cover it. In talking about the last 5-10 years where chelsea have sold on youth players who aren’t good enough (not salah/kdb types) and city have been doing it recently as well. city sold the below in last 2/3 years. All players from their academy that weren’t going to get into first team but have helped pay for haalands transfer and agent fee. Lavia 20m trafford 20m bazuna 15m Charles 15m Gunn 13m Udozie 10m
Yes that is fair, I take your point as being valid totally. I was only expressing my feelings on selling kids being last resort not the first. The fact that city have a "relatively" small squad (AKA pep has a set senior squad and he rotates heavily in that) is a strategic failure on thier part. Man city have got Foden through, just about (you never can tell with pep who he will just drop) But no keeper has come through. In defence its rico lewis and his opportunies are rare. They've thorwn in Bobb recently but again, how many chances will he get then for the forwards theres nothing really. Bobb was actually a signing from norway. this club has invested massively in thier academy stadium and facilities but pep as a manager seems to have a very much in crowd approach. He has his seniors and is there 6/7 years yet you can count the academy product on less than one hand. GK: Ederson, two **** options. RB: walker, lewis, cancelo still not sold (big buys) CB: Akanji, stones, dias, gvardiol, ake - all massive buys LB: Gomez (doens't even play) 6: rodri. sent phillips on loan (another not in the in crowd) (more big buys) 8s. silva, nunes, kovacic, kdB (all big money or cover money, not one kid trusted) LW doku, grealish, (massive buys) RW foden, bobb ST: Alvarez, haaland (massive buys) all the players he wants rotate around in this 3241 formation. he doesn't really blood anyone else. The fact they sold all those players for me is a general failure on thier part to be even more dominant. They hunt trophies now now now and losing in a cup is a disaster to them. I think LFC strategy is different to city's thats all. We are doing the academy to avoid spending on senior players by making them. Selling a few like a morton is a by product rather than the primary focus. I'm personally loving seeing klopp just launch these lads and getting them enough exposure to be an option to the next man. If klopp didn't suffer a 5th then jones and elliott wouldnt have 100 appearances each and be seen as genuine players. If klopp listened to US (me too) then bradley wouldn't be an option and quansah wouldn't be an option. I'm really enthused by the 3 forwards in the u18s. Koumas, Danns and kone doherty. Hopefully we get at least one through. (Danns has it). If the other two get pro careers at a league 1 lvel even yes I'll be delighted.
It has affected them for one window. We need to consider that the 3 year period has a massive covid loss and everton tried to bury prior years spending in covid all in one year and thats what is killing them. Most other clubs are carrying covid losses and that will wahs out soon. Forest with no disrespect to them went absolutely mad and we were all looking at them oddly. They basically bought survival for one season and then get a massive fine the second year or a points deduction. That punishment needs to be 10 points or every promoted side can see a route to just break that rule to buy a team and shrug cos if they survive then they are quids in later What we have seen is clubs like utd and newcastle are held back slightly. Chelsea paused briefly. We need to see what these clubs do next as running constantly to -104mil losses is not a sustainable model either. If everton have their punishment halved then I think every big club will shrug and go right back to breaking ffp.
