Breaking news: Torquay United owner Clarke Osborne has now announced his intention to appoint administrators to the club. This is now an emergency situation. The future of Torquay United is under immediate threat.

Very sad. The opposition for my first ever game. Went with my dad and a Torquay fan mate he had at the time. Always have a bit of a soft spot for them

One of my favourite grounds. I was there the day Terry Dolan had a Dolan Out sticker put on his head, and been there on a Friday night stood on a very wet and foggy open end with one small coach load of City fans for company watching a 0-0 draw. Another game I was sat in the seats and a poor cross from a long forgotten City player had me cursing his pedigree, only for the lady behind me to tell me I couldn’t do any better. Turned out it was his mother.
Those poor souls only old enough to have followed City for the last fifteen years don’t know what they’ve missed. Rubbish football, great times.
I really hope Torquay survive, especially as our manager had some of his early coaching lessons there.

Edit: Sounds like Tigers 1970 was there the same time as me for the 0-0!

Following Clarke Osborne’s statement confirming the intention to appoint an administrator, the club wishes to update supporters.

The administrator’s role is to try and stop TUAFC being wound up (liquidated) by finding someone who will take the club on.

Administration doesn’t necessarily mean the end for a football club. In recent years, clubs such as Southampton and Huddersfield have entered administration Both clubs have come out of the other side of those financial difficulties and have enjoyed time back in the top flight recently.

We appreciate there are a lot of questions that supporters will have, and in order to assist the club will have a question and answer article which will be updated on a rolling basis, this will be live as soon as possible.

If you do have any questions regarding the administration process then please do not hesitate to email [email protected] and we will forward these onto the administrators and the FAQ will be updated.

The administrators will work tirelessly to achieve a sale and new investment. If you are in a position where you feel you could invest singular or as part of a group then please contact the administrator.

What can our supporters do to assist?

Well yellow army we need your assistance more now than ever!

Please come and support your team, whether that is buying a match ticket, meal in the restaurant, replica kit, pint in gulls nest, sponsoring a game, support boots and laces during the week, or a donation to the club.

All money that the club raises from now on will be used solely for operational purposes to assist in the running of our club. Legal and administration fees will not be paid from the operational cashflow.

The staff and the players of this club need your support and togetherness, and by being together we stand the best chance of this football club of 125 years history finding new owners.

What better way to encourage investment into our club than for us to get Plainmoor rocking on Saturday for our game v Aveley, get behind the boys on the pitch and show the world how important our club is!!

Yes, I’ve looked it up and you’re correct. I was staying in Bristol that weekend and just remember driving to Torquay.

I remember going to a game when i was in the army in the early 80's which we lost, one of the guys was from Torquay and we went for a jolly to his place we used to do it in turns when we had free weekends to each others towns and after we went to a pub and some woman threw up on the back of one of the guys with us.

It's a shame to see proper old school clubs in this situation - 'er indoors loved Torquay away, we had three or four long weekends down there and always had a good time. Rochdale was a good away-day too, lovely little chippie just across road from the away stand, a shame. Without the KC we could have been in similar straits.

Once asked my missus if she fancied a weekend by the sea in Torquay for valentines day as it was on a Saturday - I waited until it was booked to throw in that City were actually playing there on the Same day.
And it was either that trip or another one were leading up to the game it was boiling hot, prompting me to not bother with a coat, by half time a sea fog had rolled in and it was freezing by final whistle

Unfortunately, like a lot of places, Torquay is going down the pan and has a lot of problems.
