Know nothing about him but a few new ideas wont hurt https://safc.com/news/team-news/2024/february/anthony-hayes-joins-as-first-team-coach
Sunderland AFC is pleased to announce the appointment of Anthony Hayes as the Club’s new First-Team Coach. Supporting Interim Head Coach Mike Dodds alongside Michael Proctor and Alessandro Barcherini, Hayes joins the First-Team’s coaching staff until the end of the 2023-24 season. Hayes spent seven years at Charlton Athletic prior to his Wearside move, working in the Addicks’ academy from 2016 and progressing into the role of Under-21 Lead Coach by 2021. He joined the South Londoners’ senior coaching staff one year later and led them for three games on a caretaker basis in late 2022 following the departure of Ben Garner. Alongside leading SAFC’s Under-21s, Graeme Murty will also support the First-Team throughout their training schedule and match programme until the end of the campaign. Following Hayes’ appointment, Interim Head Coach Mike Dodds said: “I’ve known Anthony for some time and we are delighted to welcome him to our coaching team. This is a position we wanted to add and following the changes made earlier this week, our requirements shifted a little as did the timeframe. Anthony immediately made himself available and like Graeme Murty, he will bring added value to our coaching and match preparations. He’s also been an Interim Head Coach before, which will not only support me but also our players as we adapt and move forward together in the coming weeks and months.”
This feels like they’re positioning as best as possible to give Dodds the job permanently. I like this as I think it’s going to mean performances improve as the pressure feels off, whilst also having a head coach who won’t just let the season float away.
Dont think so mate. They will have needed another pair of hands on the training pitch and he was available. Doubt he is here next season, unless Dodds gets the gig and he thinks this lad has been a major part. Looks just like a short term fix for a vacancy. All change in the summer I reckon.
My thinking was just that this guy has come in as first team coach rather than an interim. Ready so that Dodds’ old role is filled if he becomes permanent
i've you click on the announcement mate on twitter it's just the first bit, obviously could go longer but just says still the end of 23/24 season i think we've got him from charlton who was full time so is abit strange to leave a permanent job for a temp one
