Need to build more jails and lock the criminals up. There’s zero deterrent for any sort of criminality out there and it does my head in. No doubt the do-gooding happy clappers will be on my case again. Bart
Totally agree. There are some really weird attitudes in society today. Being selfish, uncaring, rude, and entitled are almost turned into virtues. One of the things that wound me up most about the Michael Beale is the appalling attitude shown towards him, which I see throughout society. Its not something that can be solved through politics. It's a cultural thing.
My mam always said that there was too many do-gooders in this world. These days there's no real consequences for your decisions. You can't smack kids when they're naughty, criminals don't seem to do hard time. The internet spreads rumours and heresay like wildfire. There's no respect in society anymore
I'm fortunate, I've never experienced poverty. If I had bairns who were hungry I'd do whatever was necessary to feed them. Don't criminalise that, solve it. If someone is stealing to feed an addiction, detain them but treat them and give them a chance. If they're stealing for greed, ****ing shoot them.
The wealthy are the biggest criminals of all ... ... they even profited from the misery of the pandemic. The customs force has been so underfunded the country is awash with cheap drugs. There's no point building more expensive prisons just to house the addicts we're creating. In any case building more prisons won't work as there aren't enough police officers to arrest criminals and the courts are backed up. If those at the top are openly ripping people off the tone is set.
The younger Kennedy said that society gets the kind of criminals it deserves. The education system in much of the West is pretty poor, our sense of community is dwindling, we move further and further towards lives spent generating wealth and some people get left behind. It's only going to get worse.
I too thank the Lord each day, but **** still happens. All i can do is keep on trying to do things the right way.
Community. Neighbours. Good deeds. Too little of these things. Just be human and help each other. Simple favours for each other. Welcome all comers. Dont hate people without knowing them. Just be human. Way back, when we all had to engage with each other in person, all of the above were basic standards. Now community is non existant. Every one in their own little digital world. 30 years from now it will be truly awful. Rarely will folk leave their house for social interaction. Probably be some VR drug or other. I believe in the theory of ancient civiliasations way beyond anything history claims. Every 100,000 years we wipe ourselves out say, bar a few. Not long till the next one I bet, global warming and sea levels again probably. Until people care enough about those they think they dont like it will all be ****.
Sorry but the entire criminal justice system, the police & prisons needs a wholesale review. We absolutely should be aiming to build more prisons, and recruit the people to man them. Scum who loot shops and put lives in danger doing so, currently have no deterrent and simply expect to get away with it. They actually blame society for their ways. We’ll feck that!! There’s absolutely no excuse for this scum to be allowed to get away with it. It’s the same for these kids carrying knives. There’s adequate laws to deal with it, but it’s rarely used. So kids just think they’re untouchable. Stop & Search should be done wholesale, and start locking these idiots up for a long time. Until there’s a deterrent, things will only get worse. us older folk will all remember the 'beat bobby', where every estate had a couple of cop houses with a jail in between, they knew every resident and their kin going back at least a couple of generations...you did not want to get on the wrong side of them and certainly did not want them going to your door, many a quick 'cuff' across the ear was taken instead of a vist to the parents but you grew up to respect them, older folks welcomed the peace they created. what have we got now?... all those houses were sold off years ago, stations are closing down, paper work became almost impossible and made catching criminals a complete waste of resources then when they eventually get someone to court, up pops a solicitor with a hard luck story and every trick in the book to get an easy sentence or a fine. shop workers are told to just stand and watch shoplifters now, possibly down to compen if they get injured or if the criminal gets injured...just be lucky we still have plenty of honest people around...jail should mean 'hard time', it should be a place no one wants to go back to, we should have more bobbies on the beat rather than someone shooting around in a car that they cannot chase anyone in, schools need to go back to proper education with home economics for the lasses and wood/metal work for the lads and i dont care how 'sexist' that is, it all has to start somewhere, top it off with wages that mean working is beneficial and finish it by reducing the abuse of power and 'legalised stealing' by those at the top.

Women should learn to look after the home and men should learn carpentry? With one notion, you just set us back 2000 years to a little place called Nazareth. Think they had criminals back then too.
