Except if that were true how do you explain the transfer fees for footballers?

They took care of this when they employed him. The situation is that Newcastle can put him on Garden leave until 2026 and refuse compensation altogether if they choose.

If Ashworth gets caught leaking info they'll take them to the cleaners.

Essentially Newcastle will not be joking about what they want, but if they said 20 I would think it'll end up 15 to 18.

Well that’s the thing. The fee is to buy out a players contract but I guess the club can say no.

So yes maybe they could ask for more money than the contract of employment.

I suppose legally he’s signed a contract and unless it’s stated otherwise he has to honour it.

Manu say no. He ends up planting flowers like people say.

    This is confusing. Lol

You can't just let someone come and take your stuff and roll out the red carpet for them. Newcastle are not daft and they covered this base when we ****ed Brighton over ourselves.

Man Utd and Ratworth have been spinning their Web and the minute they revealed their plans Newcastle have revealed theirs.

Newcastle lose the man and gain a fortune or man united get **** all.

Newcastle might see paying his wages as good value to keep info privy until his garden leave ends. He won't gain any further he's now on Garden leave and by 2026 Newcastle will have had time to follow through with plans and create new ones.

Ultimately this is information is valued at 20 million and I'm sure they'll meet somewhere in the middle.... it's a problem that can only be resolved with money or time.

He has done nothing anyway ... the 1st two windows he wasn't involved in at all despite the media thinking he was here lining up targets before he even joined.

The ****er even said himself it takes 5 years to see the fruits of his work and he's been here less time than it takes him to steal someone's lunch out the work fridge.

The guys a rodent and if we can cash in and replace him with someone that's actually trustworthy that would be nice.

TBH i tink he wil go to any club that is seen as a step up on the ladder. If Real Madrid or Barca come chasig him in a year or two i would think he would probably go.
A man in his position has to look at the players he spots and guage who they will go to.

I would expect he'll be at Man United as long as they want him. Its unfortunate for us that Man United came for him, but it is what it is.

It might work out for both clubs I mean we need money to push on a bit this summer and we might get another good operator to replace him.

I still think most of a clubs success comes down to the scouting department.
Yes a man like Ashworth may be able to assess if the player has the right attitude, temprament and style to fit a team but the scouts spot the ability that can be moulded into that player

Diego he isn’t a scout or a transfer guru. The journalism is quite shocking on the whole story.

The amount of reports crediting him with Newcastle’s transfer business is ridiculous.

He’s been in the role 20 months. He joined on 22nd June 2022. So Nick Pope signed on 23rd June so he isn’t getting credited with that one.

Other than him you’re looking at possibly Isak, Gordon (heard this was Howe and Nickson), Tonali, Barnes, Hall, Liveramento.

very hitty missy since he arrived. Isak is class but injured a lot, Barnes not seen enough of, Hall not played, Tonali not played, Liveramento class but can’t get passed either Tripper or Burn in starting line up.

This kind of hints at a divide between manager and DoF.
Hard to guage his input if the manager isn't giving his players a chance.

I genuinely don't think he's involved much in transfers. I think he sets up the scouting department's as one of his many job roles.

This narrative that he has every agent and every players stats on a laptop is hogwash I think. He's an office/admin guy not a football guy. He's top at what he does in organising different departments and recruitment (of other behind the scenes staff) and communicating between the different departments and reporting to owners. I'm not crediting or blaming him for any player that's come in.

Likewise at Brighton it wasn't him signing players. That was Tony Bloom's analytical company that found them.

    England - Never needed to.

    West Brom - Couldn't afford to <laugh>
