Former Leeds United head coach Jesse Marsch says he wants to manage in the Premier League again.

The American has been without a job since being sacked as Leeds United head coach in February 2023.

Despite being previously linked to Southampton and Leicester City, the 50-year-old has yet to take up a new managerial role since leaving Elland Road, but hopes to return to the top flight in the future.

Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: “I love the Premier League and I love the power of what the league means globally, but honestly the true answer is I want to find like-minded people, that are committed to developing people, relationships and building something.

“I’ve been kind of hoping we can find some kind of connection back in the Premier League but if that doesn’t come I have to find what else is out there and what comes next for me.”

Marsch had previous managerial spells at New York Red Bulls in MLS, RB Leipzig, and RB Salzburg before taking charge of Leeds in February 2022, replacing Marcelo Bielsa.

In his first season with the club, he helped Leeds avoid relegation, achieving Premier League survival by three points on the final day of the 2021-22 season.

However, Marsch was dismissed after his side failed to win a league game in over three months during the following season.

“Working with the players was fantastic, ” Marsch said of his time at Leeds. “They fought and gave everything they had for me. I appreciated working with them and enjoyed the whole process.

“When I said I was heartbroken it was really difficult for me to say goodbye to them and I didn’t because I knew if I stood in front of them I’d break down. So I just individually dealt with a lot of them. Of course, there are always going to be questions coming from above when results aren’t going the way they should be.

“I understand why decisions get made. Obviously, I wish it would have been different and I firmly believe we were on track to get the results that were necessary and continue to build but this is football.”

He’ll have a long wait, lower half championship club is his level and he’ll quickly come unstuck when he complains they can’t buy into his ideas so needs to sign 11 new players
