Sorry, I think you're wrong. The way he moves his legs is a backwards step not a side step and his heel is clearly further over the line after he takes the step.
No one I have ever managed would be upset if I inadvertently missed a hand gesture I had made. And certainly not after I had apologised for missing the hand gesture. Because they are all intelligent people.
