He's more consistent, but not an overall better player. Rooney is creative and a goal threat. He's very technical and probably the 3rd best player in the world when he's on form.
Messi, Ronaldo, Villa, Xavi, Iniesta (sp), Ameobi, Fabregas, Balloteli, Kun Aguero etc. Rooney is very good but there are a lot of players who you could argue are better.
Those players are better than Rooney in certain ways. Ronaldo and Messi are both overall better players. But the rest, I'd say Rooney was better than them. Xavi, Ineist, Fabregas are all better passers of the ball than Rooney, but Rooney is still a fantastic passer of the ball and a great goal threat. Aguero and Balotteli are better dribblers and quicker than Rooney, but overall I'd say Rooney was better than both. Aguero is probably a better finisher than Rooney also, but Rooney does a lot more for his team, even when he's not scoring, he's setting up chances and making great passes.
van Persie is the best striker in the PL IMO. Always scores goals, his only problem is when he gets injured.
RVP is twice the player Rooney is. Shrek just recieves dumb plaudits for running round like a nutter.
Does no one remember Tash vs everyone else in regard to Ronaldo and Messi. He will soon see the error of his ways.
Rooney can still play well when he's not scoring. He's not been scoring recently, but he's still played a part in his team. His passing is excellent, his vision is brilliant, his work rate is fantastic, and he is a team player. I wish people would stop calling him shrek, because what he looks like has nothing to do with his ability to play football. He's a fantastic player and professional, and still provides for his team even when he's not scoring goals. He's better than RVP, but if you disagree that's fine.
Messi is the best player in the world, but It would be very interesting to see how many goals he'd score on a different team. I could score a hat trick for Barcelona... lol no but seriously, Ronaldo matched Shearer's record for most goals in a PL season, at only 22 years old. 34 goals in the PL. Messi is definitely the most technical player in the world, however, I think Ronaldo could play as well in any league, where as Messi seems built for Barca and Barca alone.
It does though. Cabaye is the most handsomest man in the world and is better than Wazza. Pardew is more of a looker than Avram Grant and is a better manager. See?
