Interesting, so we'll get £15m for this, plus not triggering Hall's appearance clause will mean we don't have to pay another £30m for him.
This is the thing someone in the paper or social media takes a shot in the dark and it gets played out as Gospel. The reality is the fans tend to go with the favourable narrative much like the latest one which is that Ashworth hasn't been very good at Newcastle. In truth we all know two thirds of **** all and are probably all correct on things to a degree at least..... this is why it's a goldmine for a **** like me.
From what I've read on Hall, most reliable journalists think the deal's already done. I think we're grasping onto the appearance clause because if he's genuinely joining permanently and isn't even getting the occasional sub appearance makes absolutely no sense. 19, sure, but Miley's 17. To think we have effectively spent £75m on full backs and still pick Dan Burn.
Was mentioned by Howe in a press conference months and months ago. He claimed there was a clause, never specified what it was but certainly left you thinking it was appearance related.
Howe is an expert in giving nothing away... that's to his credit btw. I personally still think Hall will be here in the future.. maybe we're all wrong and he's just not ready now. Howe might have a plan for him. The clause could simply be option to extend.
I think playing Hall would mean a completely new tactic. He’s more of a wing back and I think so is Tino - though Tino is a lot more versatile. I wonder if long term plan is still 4 at the back but with a proper sit in front of the centre backs defensive midfielder?
The thing is as far as I'm aware they played Livramento and Hall in the same game only once? We won 3-0 away at Old Trafford and both were outstanding. I've seen Hall struggle when put on but he's been put on in cm and left wing one occasion which is just unfair. It seems to me that Howe will do absolutely anything to keep playing Burn, but it's possible Hall and Livramento will be our full backs next season. Hall isn't the quickest himself , but he can play. To answer your question the plan was Phillips
I absolutely agree, but the most worrying part is that Howe admitted he wanted Phillips and he's still available this summer. If West Ham don't take him I suspect Newcastle will.
I suppose it's a bit difficult if your a full back and you get told to completely abandon the wide areas and to just sit tight inside the box when your natural instinct is to either jockey the player out of play or engage for the tackle
He only wanted Phillips until the summer as Joelinton got injured and Tonali is banned until next season. With Tonali coming back, we won't go anywhere near Phillips, especially as he's been **** for West Ham this far.
If a Right Winger, Right sided Centre Back and first team ready left back aren't through the door in the summer then questions seriously need asked of whoever is in charge of scouting and transfers. Realistically we also need another striker and a new first choice keeper.
Hall is very good player mate.... Miley only got in via injuries... Hall will be in soon enough. Miley is a prime example of youth players getting a chance.
