Agree 100 %, I still believe that the visiting team should have the choice of who bats 1st

England spiralled to a miserable and massive defeat by India on the fourth day of the third Test in Rajkot.

In perhaps their worst performance since captain Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum took charge, England were dismantled by Yashasvi Jaiswal's 214 not out, then capitulated with the bat.

Set a notional 557 to win, the tourists were bundled out for an embarrassing 122 in a blur of irresponsible strokes.

The 434-run margin of defeat is England's largest in terms of runs since 1934 and India's biggest of all time.

India, who take a 2-1 lead in the series, were led by the brilliant Jaiswal's second double century in as many Tests.

Perhaps Joe Root has today brought a bit of sense back to English test cricket and an end to this slogaball nonsense which had become a disaster on the back of a stream of players out to irresponsible strokes because the other teams had adjusted their own tactics to deal with it. If that means a new coach and a new Captain with Stokes returning to the ranks so be it.

Commentators early on suggested 250 might be a par score on that pitch, so on that basis England on top. The ball that got Stokes a case in point as it struck him just shin high.

Various players are underperforming according to the media, but Stokes is never mentioned. 199 runs in ten innings is well below par. Bairstow got 238. That's numbers 5 and 6 contributing just 437 at just under 22 per innings. Plus rookie spin bowlers who overall did ok, but figures compared to the Indian spinners tell the tale.
