There's a martial arts for the Katana which is explicitly based around never using a Katana as an actual weapon. Forgot it's name. But it's beyond tedious.
No, Kendo is the one you use for dueling. I'll look it up later, but it's specifically around honoring a ceremony involving a Katana, not using it as a weapon Kendo you learn to actually use a weapon.
@Obi Wan Iaido. I was watching a video about it, the guy learning is Japanese and said when he signed up he felt it was going to be a martial art involving fighting. But it's more like a ceremony and not practically useful.
Ah right, so a bit like a kendo version of of kata in karate. It should be PART of the training, but of you ONLY do that then you never know what it's like to actually face an opponent. Like those people who swing nunchucks around to look good and think they are Bruce Lee, having never sparred with anyone.
