A brief report, for the benefit of those who couldn't go: Wanderers bounced back from the Accrington debacle in fine fashion with a comfortable victory tonight against a distinctly unimpressive Burton outfit. In a passionate first half display, the blues tore into the brewers from the first whistle, playing with desire, application, and quality that had been so lacking at the weekend. The initial pressure paid off after just 10 minutes when Stuart Lewis picked up the ball midway inside the Burton half, surged into the penalty area, and placed a fine shot into the top corner of the net. Wycombe continued to dominate a poor Burton side who only threatened sporadically and extended the lead when Lewis Montrose sent in an effort from the apex of the penalty area which took a huge deflection and looped over the stranded Burton 'keeper Adam Legdzins and into the far corner of the goal - a fortunate, but deserved second. Legdzins saved well from Scott Rendell and JP Pittman fired over from a relatively tight angle before Wanderers scored a third after 40 minutes - Stuart Lewis scoring with a superb strike from almost 30 yards which flashed into the bottom corner of the net after another trademark run forward. A second for Lewis and a contender for goal of the season. Burton emerged for the second half 5 minutes before it kicked off and were improved - they looked more organised and aggressive, especially after the introduction of Aaron Webster and deservedly pulled a goal back when a corner was nodded home by Sam Winnall from close range. The marking from Wycombe left much to be desired and the failure to defend another set piece will concern the management. Nonetheless the blues wethered the Burton storm and on 63 minutes won a penalty after Pittman was clumsily bundled over by the erratic Darren Moore. Scott Rendell cooly coverted the spot kick, and from then on the game passed in relatively comfortable fashion from Wycombe's point of view. Gary Waddock was able to rest Gareth Ainsworth, Pittman, and Lewis with the clock ticking, and the final whistle confirmed an impressive response by the Wanderers after the Accrington defeat, and the team can now approach the two away games at Macclesfield and Chesterfield with renewed confidence. Starting team: Bull - 7 Foster - 7 Winfield - 7 Bennett - 7 McCoy - 7 Ainsworth - 7 Lewis - 9 Montrose - 8 Strevens - 7 Rendell - 7 Pittman - 7
