A lot of scrambling to deflect away from the Jewish people living in fear in the UK from my one post this morning
Well of course I have an opinion, that’s why I questioned the CST definitions. Which was kind of the whole point. I didn’t move out of London because I was anxious
Anyway changing the subject completely, you not been on the dinner thread today, some sad news about Ginge, only reason I thought of you is because Ginge use to tell me you and him were good mates, so probably best you have a read.
Yeah I hadn’t seen it. Just seen his FB page now Another long standing not606 member gone God bless him
Not sure the Russian people will buy into another 'Putin's war, given the cost of the one in Ukraine both in terms of lives and economically ... ... and more likely to see a united Ireland than more unrest in my lifetime ...
you think the Loyalist gunmen won't be active if there is a united Ireland because i do just as even now the fringes of the Republican movement are still active .
My generation grew up thinking the conflict in Northern Ireland would go on indefinitely, that’s the point. Same with South Africa, the Berlin Wall etc. Yet all those problems ended peacefully, in our lifetimes. So there’s hope for the Middle East; although there’d be more hope if the USA and Russia would butt out completely.
No they likely will ... but this is a different era with mych more sophisticated anti-terrorism ... plus the loyalists won't be funded by Irish America..
err i said in my lifetime so unless i go on for longer than i expect ,and am pretty sure i don't want to , they have 20 years to get their **** together and considering it's been going on for nigh on 80 years and a peaceful reasonable solution seems as far away as ever . Obviously it could happen but doesn't seem likely imo
didn't stop them before .though a difference is on both sides ,at present at least, only in Belfast and Derry are there high tensions
I've caught this in the middle so not sure if this is being discussed, but I just can't see anything like the troubles returning. The levels of surveilance everywhere now, and with the computerised as well as cashless society, anyone attempting to start any organised conflict would be taken out very quickly.
I get the feeling that the gangs (that’s what they’re) on both sides still pull rank over the PSNI. Every now and again when there’s flare ups you can sort of judge that the police are terrified and outnumbered. It was only last year their addresses and identities were released and loads of them were fleeing over the water to England and Wales for safety. Scotland is still a bit edgy over it all from what I experienced when I was over there. It bubbles under the surface.
oh the full blown "troubles" won't return mainly because apart from a few die hard nutters on both sides most just want to get on with their lives . If as now seems inevitable since Brexit a united Ireland finally comes to pass i wouldn't be surprised to see Loyalist paramiltary action
It does seem like it's gangs. I didnt know the rest btw. But gangs is how it comes across. It could flare up but would it last or become a movement beyond a bunch of blokes burning a few cars, rioting, and coming out with guns loaded? I can't see them managing any more than that, I'm thinking it through in my head. You want to place an explosive under a van and leave it in a town centre or near PSNI HQ. Where are you getting the van without it showing up on some computer system somewhere? How are you going to get past all the street cameras. How are you going to escape the digital trail even if you do pull it off. I know it's a bit simplistic but I'm sure the IRA knew the times were changing when they gave up their arms, and that was even before the level of surveilance and computerised **** we have now.
