as you know, i like to sit quiet and allow 10 games for manager/coachs/players to settle in and show what they have.

first and foremost, this is not a thread to revisit the mags game and throw blame around, this is simply to discuss beale's performance, not to try and jump onto another platform to throw pointless repetitive rubbish with no real relation to the subject.

like others i had/have no idea about beale, his CV seems to be very good but a couple of 'not great' reports along the way, after these ten games i would have expected to see a bit of a clear change compared to TM, even though he said the players do not need much...think we would agree with that to be honest.

i am also trying to give him a wee bit of freedom as he certainly did not come into the club at a time where he had a week or two to work with the players, it was just get stuck in and see how it goes with no pressure on him...i can accept that as long as they are sure that he will be here for a while and he is able to take the club forward.

so, i feel as if work has been done on defence, ballard and onien have been tighter recently and until tonight (huddersfield) i thought we had lost that 'here they come, first attack-goal' type scenario we had developed, i also started to feel we were getting back towards our play from last season and clarke had started to change his game around plus he was laying the ball off to others around the box, while nothing drastic, these small changes certainly made a difference to the team.

there will be blips of course but i really want to see something done in central midfield, we are very static and slow currently, rusyn has to be main striker and we need the lads to spot his runs and play him in, tonight we saw a return to 'give it to clarke' and he had a bad game yet they kept on doing it even when others had space.

there is time and games of course so i am not writing beale off yet as there have been glimpses of a different style of play, plus i think the squad need to give themselves a 'reboot', they are great lads and good players but they are no better than others in this league unless they grab that consistency and get promoted...beale is in a very good job right now and being honest, he needs to do well as plenty of people seem to have faith in him.

right, anyone noticed anything i have missed or are my thoughts well off the mark..feel free to discuss but please, none of this 'he is sh1ite', if you think he is doing bad then just hoy some context into it so others can discuss.

What’s the points return after 10 league games…?

Results have slightly improved but that's masked poor performances. Over the run, that is what matters and will dictate points in the long run.

Not sure we have played well over a full 90. Even a solid 45 only comes along a couple of times. We are absolutely worse to watch for me, far far too passive. Away from home, we are horrendous. Performance and points. I think picking up a few points lately has masked a poor start.

That guy who analyses the Safc games is decent to watch. I don't think he is doing the Huddlesfield game but if he was, he would rinse us.

Correct. Averages about 64 points over a season. Which historically gets you 10-12 in this league, miles away from play off points.

Pretty much. But it's a slight improvement on the 11 we picked up in Mowbray's last 10 games.

I've said all season that we lack pace all over the pitch. Pace and power are vital in today's game.
Last season we had what I called zipability and I don't think for one minute it's down to Diallo not being here.
I noticed preseason our style had changed.
This was under Mowbray so we can't all just say it's since Beale came in.
Thing is we will 100% lose Clarke in the summer if we don't go up but I don't mind that as long as we reinvested the money into new signings. But I'm not totally confident that would happen.
We might even lose Ballard and Neil too.
We need to invest more money into the team.

The good 'zippy' football deserted us before the end of last season. It's all been sideways and backwards for about a year now

    After 10 games:

    Mowbray
    W-3
    D-3
    L-4
    F-13
    A-12

    Beale
    W-4
    D-2
    L-4
    F-12
    A-11

Not a huge amount of difference in those 2 records.
4 of Mogga's games were against promotion-chasing teams (1 point gained)
5 of Beale's games have been against promotion-chasing teams (4 points gained)

4 clean sheets for Mowbray v 2 for Beale
4 games without scoring for Mowbray v 3 for Beale

Not a lot to go on. As it stands we are 2 points worse off this year compared to the same point last season, but where Mowbray really came in to his own was the last 9 games where we went from averaging 1.4ppg to 1.9ppg. I don't see us going on that sort of run this year, we just don't have the creative sparks we had last season.

It's almost as if both managers (sorry, head coach) are equally competent and that the results we're getting are down to the ability of the players we have. Who'd have thought?

Basically, at the moment, we're a top half championship side with the ability to push for the playoffs. That's decent with it being only our second year back at this level after so long in League 1. A bit more experience for our young players and some tweaks to the squad and we should have enough for a proper promotion push in a year or so.

I do think recruitment has been poor in last few windows, so it's not all on Mowbray and Beale. The lack of proper experience in the CDM and ST positions show so much for me. We have a big of a soft underbelly and when it's not going great, we lack the experience to dig in and grind it out. Mostly away from home.

That said, I do feel as Beale has us less fun to watch. And the results are the same as before so it's not exactly effective.

This. You could argue the Preston game because we took our foot off the pedal 2nd half and saw the game out. There have been far more bad performances than good.

as for the 'soft underbelly' did anyone else notice our fear of going for headers last night?

clarke seemed the worst but i noticed one or two others backing off when it came time to 'fight' for a header, we also appeared to lose the press again which i hope does not mean tactics are becoming an 'everyone do something different this time' affair.

Basically we are 2yrs into a 5yr plan and because we overachieved last season and got into the play offs majority of fans then jumped the gun and expected at least the same if not better this season. Tougher league this year and I will repeat only 2yrs into a 5yr plan.

If we are all honest not out of disrespect or anything because we are a decent young side but we are a far away from being a side capable of competing in the premier league.

The inconsistency and lack of experienced players there to support / advise the youth doesn't help.

I am 100% though with the model as my god, signing has beans for daft money has had us in the worst state the clubs been in for years. We are moving well in the right direction let's enjoy the rebuild we just need to be patient.

Think we’re getting what you can expect from a young relatively inexperienced team….inconsistency.
Up to MB to show these kids how to improve, patience would be nice from fans but I’m not holding my breath.
Overall I’m neither under or overwhelmed after 10 games.

TM gained himself enough support for the fans to 'allow' him time to get the tean back on track, but it was obvious there was something lacking in the main this season...i am now wondering how much time he would have had, to be honest, i am pleased he went when he did even though i thought it was a bad call and unfortunately, beale does not have any credit and while most will give him time he really has to get the lads working again ASAP.

Couple of points from me, without trying to repeat myself endlessly. I think he has come in a really tough time (rapid fixtures), injuries have bit and he has inherited a squad that in my opinion isnt as good as we might hope for yet. I think he has done more right than wrong.

Second season syndrome is a thing. For us we were a surprise last year to all teams. This year they know much more about us and how we want to play.

At times they look mentally fatigued rather than physically so. Players like Jobe, Rusyn, Ba, Burstow, Ekwah are still learning to play in such high pressured games and environments. That high pressure takes a toll mentally.

One or two players have not really reached their levels of last season. Roberts and Ekwah I would suggest are the ones that stand out.

I dont think some of our tfr business has been helpful for this season. Might well be good for next. We havent been able to resolve the CF situation. I know it is a boring old argument but the bare reality is we would be better off if we had a srriker who was simply undroppable. Feels a long time since Stewart was dominating defenders, stretching the pitch and scoring for fun.

My point is I think both Mowbray and Beale have had a hand dealt them which is not optimal. Both have madd mistakes of course. But in reality I am not sure we have the squad to expect top 6, we coule do it, but I believe it would be a case of punching above our weight if we made it.

It’s a weird situation. We want to get into the top 6, we expect to be able to get into the top 6 but the squad has too many weaknesses to probably achieve it. A tough gig for Mowbray and Beale, like you say.

It would be a real shame to not go up this year and lose one or more of Clarke, Neil, Ballard, etc. That’s probably what we need though as it might allow us to kick on with a bit more financial clout behind us.
