You know when we said we may have to sell a big name? ……. well perhaps Ashworth going and the incoming compo (presumably up front) will mean we don’t now need to sell a big player. although it will be nailed on that Ashworth will try to get one or two of ours.
The Salford Red fans are really getting excited by Ashworth like we did. They think he was the one who unearthed all the Brighton gems like we did.
That fits with us trying to buy all of the Bournemouth team and backroom. It's narrow minded of Howe to focus on that club. We are poles apart. (some minor leakage just seeped out- pass me one of your Tena for men please Roly).
Ashworth is meant to be class at what he does, he hasn't been in the role long enough to do what he's been hired to do. I personally think if he leaves then serious questions need to be asked of him and his integrity. You can't possibly have 5 jobs in 12 years in which the whole idea of the job role is long term planning. On average he's lasting about the same time as a single manager.
I for one will be disappointed if he goes. Happy to admit it. He came with a good reputation and we were excited. So I don't see the point in turning on him or saying he's been useless. This type of role takes time to make significant changes. It's about long term strategy and building infrastructure. Yes there can be some quick wins on the way, but most of the real value will be seen over time. What we need now is stability, not people coming in for 18 month stints and undoing whatever plans the previous person put in place. So yes, I'll be gutted if he goes. But equally I can understand the attraction of a club like Man United.
He's a big name in especially English football circles so I'm not surprised at all that Ratcliffe would have immediately identified him.
Erm, I don't get it. If Howe has too much say over transfers then surely Hall wouldn't be here at all (based on the evidence of Howe not playing him). Seems like more newspaper garbage.
Yeah - apparently Ashworth feels that due to this, he's been unable to make many of the signings he wanted.
Think CC suspects Howe of favouring players that he had pushed for and shunning those that were perhaps signed on Ashworth's advice.
A DoF and a football manager have to work very closely and need to be aligned in their thoughts and plans. If this is indeed true and Howe doesn’t like Ashworth’s recommendations then that’s a huge concern.
