You're going for a walk that you know can be dangerous then wonder off by yourself. If the massive cliff edge with nothing below doesn't scream danger then i dont know what does. **** the parents, no blame at all on their son. Sometimes **** happens and loads of us who have done dangerous things could have died but gotten away with it (myself included)
I’ve survived this long without falling off a cliff by not going near the edge. I’d recommend that strategy to anyone.

My dad had cancer but had to stop his meds because he had dormant hepatitis B which then became active as the chemo killed his white blood cells that cause the hep B to flare up which then killed his liver and in the end his intestines exploded (from too many dead intestine cells). If i was those parents i'd probably ask why the hospital didn't spot his invisible dormant Hep B and want to blame someone (and sue) except **** happens and theres no point wasting NHS money on that sort of ****. Idiots (maybe i will change my mind if i get a fuller story but from what i've read IDIOTS)
No risk assessment had been carried out. No discussion about safety. No first aider on the trip. Their son is dead. I think I’d want answers as well. The fact the police and courts have decided failings have contributed to his death and may have been avoided had these failings not happened surely shows the parents have every right to demand answers and accountability.
If they had been taken on a dangerous route i'd say fair enough but they decided to **** off on their own. Even then no As for first aider, maybe because it's an "organised" group it requires a first aider but maybe i don't think about this as with the thousands of people who walk hills and mountains how many of them are first aiders. Maybe i'm too blase. Edit: Even then he slipped off the edge, no amount of health and safety is going to mitigate someone accidently going over the edge but maybe you are right. My Grandson does scouts, so I can only speak as a Grandfather, and if some harm came to him as a result of activities while under their care, I'd be asking some serious questions, however, looking at that article the lad was 16, and although I respect the parents rights to answers, I was working in full-time employment at 16 and thinking back to then, I'm responsible for my own actions. I should add the company I worked for then, well in todays world I must have broke every health and safety warning going by todays standards but back then the standards just weren't there, or if they were not enforced/ignored. Accidents would have been from height, risks of crushing, and using mechanical means dangerously. Jeez those parents would have had a fit!
