This board is quiet to the point of terminal at the moment, very few new posts and a sense of dread about the weekend.

I have to say I understand why on both counts, one story dominates the board and any attempt to move away from it ends up being taken over, again I understand that and agree that if that's what people want to debate, so be it, just some of us don't, well not over and over and over again.

From my point I just keep repeating the same thing, in itself now boring, I'm not happy, know we are in a bit of a pickle and know that Bruce is on borrowed time.

More to the point, reading all the noises coming out of the club, Bruce and the players know it, that's why I am looking forward to Saturday, it will be a tense, nervy and atmospheric game, the football may be good, may be bad and the result could be a disaster but it will be important.

All I can, and will do, is give my all to supporting Bruce, the team and the club, its all I can do then at 5 o'clock, when the outcome is known I will react. I keep saying the same thing, I see no point in reacting to an event that is still 48 hours away, more to the point, I don't see how we can.

All of my life I have supported the underdog so will continue supporting Bruce, at times through tearful eyes, until he goes. Will he succeed, I hope he will but think he wont but Saturday could be the start of the countdown. The Fulham draw may just have been enough for Short to hold back, anything but a win on Saturday and I don't think he will hold back any longer, just my opinion and worth nothing, only Shorts does.

I have a feeling that the next 48 hours on here will continue with the same the end is nigh threads so at least it will allow me and others time to do other things.

I still believe, foolishly maybe, that we will win on Saturday, do OK at Wolves then beat Blackburn.

I believe Steve Bruce will be manager in January and we will bring in a top striker and I believe we will finish in the top ten.

If we don't do the first bit, win, OK, win then the second bit will happen with a new manager.

Either way, for me, its build up time for a good game and result against Wigan.

    Morning Syd,

Unfortunately there seems to be little else to talk about at the moment....

Maybe things will change after we win on Saturday <laugh>

The Wigan manager told the Observer: "In football all you can control is your own level of performance, and we'll be trying to replicate what we did against Blackburn over the next few weeks - especially at Sunderland."

Seems we are "the" must win game for Wigan.

No doubt that one head will roll after the weekend...I hope it will be Bruce's. Maybe he'll end up back at Wigan? Wouldn't be a bad shout for him as he knows the players and club....he loves a dogfight down the bottom - just wish he hadn't done it with us.

I'd let him go on a Bosman...may even stump up the agents fees too! :)

Looking at your form, especially home, Wigan must be targeting all 3 points on Saturday. (no disrespect intended)
This could make for a very tense and exciting game for you guys, but if you concede an early goal I can see the crowd really getting at Bruce. A draw is not really any good to either team, but I have a feeling that Bruce will just try not to lose rather than go all out for a win.

Bruce does try not to lose but I dont think he dare for this game, it would be suicide and he may be pig headed but he's not that big a fool.

Everyone knows anything less than a win is unacceptable.

Instead of shouting at screens and finger tapping key boards,
best the Sunderland fans can do is to get behind their team, get to the ground and roar on your team if you can,
as this is the time it is needed most. I fear if you lose this one, the downward spiral will become a whirlpool
But, If you can come out of the ground knackered with emotion, and a voice like a Dalek, then at least you can say that you did your bit
wether the team can say the same, is another matter

A sad situation that he may have to rely on a win against the mighty Wigan in order to keep his job..

Sometimes though you have to take a step backwards in order to go forwards. If losing to Wigan meant that Martin o Neill took charge for the wolves game, I'd not lose too much sleep.

I don't like seeing the lads lose (Iam sadly getting used to not see them win mind) but defeat v Wigan wouldn't kill our season in November. It would however provide the ammunition for shorts gun and hopefully if would fire it in Bruces direction, resurrecting our failing season and disasterous year so far.

A perfect solution would be 3 scraped points and o neill in as well but miracles are for story books.
