As far as I've been told on this forum, he was here when we signed Isak but his involvement in that deal is not something anyone is sure about. But on the youngsters, the general signings? I have not been impressed at all. As far as I saw in the Amazon doc, he uses an Ipad and just basically says we need players in areas, it's Amanda and etc, who speak with players consistently. Eddie Howe wanted Gordon, it was not Ashworth who led the charge on that. Amanda Staveley negotiated with Everton.
So Ashworth is a charlatan? Awesome sending him packing with a 30m compensation package. We are devastated boohoo. Give us the money.
The work that's gone on in the background for his job role is kind of unknown. The medical department seems to be a complete cluster ****. The analytics department seems to have some glaring questions being asked of it. The loan department is as big a joke as it ever was. The transfer window last summer, has, at present, got large question marks over it. The idea of a sporting director is long term strategy, how the **** can a man that's potentially had 3 sporting director roles in 3 years be considered a long term strategy? He'll have potentially spent more time on gardening leave than doing the actual job in recent years.
You're 100% spot on mate. Right now on here especially there appears to be a few who think most things are **** and some who think most things are ****ing perfect. It's right down the middle for me still, there are glaring things at Newcastle which are dreadful. All those things you listed. A major football club, aiming for top 4 still have someone like Ameobi in a key, key position just because he's a former player? Man's useless. We need to be tougher in my opinion, get things in the back in order and sack the people who just are not good enough. Still think the owners are doing good work overall tho.
I like the way the owners have gone about most things. The one grumble I and many others have, has been the ticketing fiasco. The owners and Darren Eales have been the ones trying to improve the income streams and at least you can see in the accounts how that is panning out. Over tie this will help bring in better players and in turn higher finishes. The team when fit and rested by in large do well, squad is thread bare past first 11. That will take time. Everything after that other than the women's team seems at a stand still. The 2 big development squad signings in Kuol and Minteh seem to be struggling. Minteh's stats look okay but when speaking to Feyenord fans they told me he's like a headless chicken. Kuol just seems to have gone from one disaster loan to another.
The owners probably want rid of him anyway..... they'll have looked into this season and realised he's the glue causing all the problems.
In 16 years he's been at West Brom, England, Brighton, Newcastle and now possibly Man Utd - Some long term loyalty there for a job role that is meant to see these guys outlast managers. This ****er changes jobs about as often as I get a phone upgrade
Some interesting news from Hope mind...sounds like he was never in control and that Howe has alot more control than we think...... this might explain the situation with Hall.
