We were beating teams in October and November, but not convincingly. That changed in December and January. And whilst yes you can certainly argue that there was a decrease in the quality of the opposition, one noticeable change was how we finally started to pick out the runs which the forward line were regularly making. Mixing up patient possession with balls over the top has been too much for opponents to handle. But today, we were right back to ignoring those runs altogether. It makes this style of football so much easier to defend against, if you can just sit in and let us pass it between our defenders. (And giving the ball away every 10 seconds also makes this style of football so much easier to attack against!)
Think you said it. Complete lack of intensity compared to what we've been used to. We have to do better without Downes in the team. Charles not the current answer!
Midfield has looked weak against both Huddersfield and Bristol C, two teams who decided to press us rather than sit back. We need a solution to that.
Thank you Loading! You've single-handedly turned us around and we should be good for a playoff place at minimum now. This run was legendary. It's going to be so difficult getting autos though now because the momentum Leeds are on, and the wobble we are on, isn't going to end in the the next few games, and after that it might well be too late. So, we just have to focus on being the best of the rest. Which in our day, we are, easily. Rotate the team on Friday Russ; Fraser and Che back in. Meghoma at LB. F*ck we literally have no reserve midfielders
Thing is we had momentum so now we may get it back. Leeds may lose theirs. Football. It's a funny old game.
Disappointed that we ended the run with such a dismal performance by so many players. Everything about our play was second rate - passing and movement, midfielders taking the easy option by passing the ball backwards and not playing the ball around the corner or turning and facing up. I think we missed an on form Che tonight, but he might have been as bad as the rest. Credit to Bristol for having the right game plan and carrying it out. Final point. 3 goals from crosses. We need to be doing more to stop crosses coming in (2 against Huddersfield too) although you can’t do anything to stop the cross from the corner. Just need to defend it better.
If we had a week off I would be more positive. But we have a game every three days plus bustard Liverpool as well. Our game relies heavily on pressing, and we can't do that with a tired team.
Meh. We were a bit **** weren't we? Not sure the half time sub was a good one, Smallbone just isn't a DM. Ah well. All good things come to an end. Ok to West Brom. Full credit to Bristol. They were excellent and fully deserved the win
And that was 25 games before tonight. So looking on the bright side, the rest of the season will be fun!
Maybe slightly dramatic calling one defeat in 26 a wobble, but I get you, probably both supported Sai ts too long
Even though we were very poor we still had our moments at 0-0. Edozie hit the bar, Armstrong was gifted the ball at the start of the second half but messed it up. I've got no complaints about the result but I was actually more annoyed about the first half on Saturday than tonight. At least the unbeaten run can no longer serve as a distraction.
